Chapter 21

I yanked on the chains, but the shackles were magically bound to the wall, keeping me from using my strength. The energy was being sapped out of me, and I was powerless to do anything. I worried that they were going to leave me here until all of my power was drained, but that worry was quickly abated when I heard footsteps.

The door to my dungeon opened, and in came one of my greatest enemies. The source of all evil. "Satan," I whispered angrily. He had a demon on each side of him, smirking at me.

"I prefer your highness. Master would even work," he said coming to stand right in front of me. "Whichever you like."

I glared at him from my knees. "I'll never call you anything than what you really are. Coward."

Anger filtered into his eyes, and he knelt down to my level. Backhanding me, he spat, "You are in no position to lecture me. Who was the one hiding out in the human world?"

"I was on an assignment," I said. "I wasn't hiding from anyone." My cheek stung from the strike.

He chukcled. "It makes no never mind to me. We have you at last and that is all that matters. You have signed the contract. You are to do my bidding. There is no escape, and there is nothing you can do to defy me."

"I have not yet turned eighteen. I don't have to do anything for you."

"Oh, but your birthday is in little less than a month. You have no choice. Besides, if you stay here, I don't have to worry about finding you again."

"You can't hold me here," I said, hanging my head. I knew what I was saying didn't matter, I was screwed either way.

"Where is that human brat of yours? What is he to you?" he asked, holding my face up to face him with his thumb under my chin.

Fear flashed through my eyes. "Nothing. He means nothing to me. He's just an assignment," I lied. I didn't want them to hurt him. He was an innocent I had drug into all of this. If he died because of me, well, I didn't know what I would do.

"You're lying. I know he is something quite precious to you. Even if you yourself won't admit it. Deep down, you have the seeds of love already beginning to grow," he said suddenly, standing back up and heading over to the other demons at the door. "We went back to the house and found nothing but his dead corpse. Must have been killed by some of my minions."

"You're lying!" I screamed at him. "He isn't dead! Dia would have protected him!" He couldn't be dead. not because of me! Not because I had left him alone. Tears were forming in my eyes.

"The little fairy familiar of yours? Dead too." He seemed all too happy about it. He was lying. I could sense it. He was just trying to goad me on. And it had worked.

"Then she died with honor," I said, looking away. I composed myself and smirked back over at him. "If he died, he went to a better place. Away from the likes of you."

"You're mouth is going to get you into more trouble." He turned to the demon on the right. "Take her to the special room. Maybe a few hours with Draken will soften her up a bit and make her a bit more compliant."

The demon laughed as he unshackled me. However, I was much to weak to do anything but fall forward. The demons grabbed an arm and began pulling me into the room where I was going to get tortured. I fought as best I could, but it was futile. No sense in prolonging what was to come.

They hooked me up to a table so that I couldn't move, and a man, a hollow, picked up a scalpel and began his work. I could do nothing but scream.
