Chance won his challenge easily, which came as no surprise. As he was walking off the field, he turned to me and winked. I looked away, refusing to give him the satisfaction of seeing me get worked up over him.
Shunsuke's fight with the dragon was reckless, but I hadn't expected anything more or less. He was at a huge disadvantage, not knowing the ways of anything here. There probably weren't even any dragons in the human world. When he had gotten thrown into the wall, my breath caught. After a little more fighting, it was clear that Chance was going to win this round.
I tapped my foot nervously and listened as my father announced Chance the winner of the round. He snapped his fingers and the next obstacle was laid out.
"Next is the obstacle course. The two men will be racing against each other a course with hidden traps. The first one to the finish wins!" Father bellowed, his voice echoing throughout the entire stadium.
Shunsuke was quick. This was where he was going to come up from behind. I knew he could do this one. I clasped my hands together, praying to the heavens above to give us this one good turn. I believed in fate and destiny, and I believed there was a reason the heavens had sent me to Shunsuke. We were supposed to be together.
Soon, the field was transformed into the new arena and the two boys took their spots at the beginning of the race. I could see the officials talking to the boys, probably just explaining the rules more thoroughly. Chance glanced up at me, blowing a kiss my way.
I narrowed my eyes angrily. Why was he continuing this charade. If Shunsuke saw him, he might get the wrong idea. Unless, of course, that was his plan. He wanted Shunsuke to see, to rile him and get a reaction out of him. He was playing head games with him. So, either Shunsuke went off the handle and fought him, thus disqualifying himself, or Shunsuke started performing so badly that he would lose the remainder of the challenges and thus lose.
No, Shunsuke was better than that. He wouldn't succumb to Chance's tricks so easily.
