Shunsuke was called over by one of the lords. I smiled watching him go. Everyone seemed to be accepting him, and me for who we were. Humans.I had to say I didn't expect things to go this smoothly. But, I was glad.
Everyone was slowly leaving, and I stood near the doors to say my goodbyes to the people as they left. The question of the night was why we didn't have a date set up for the marriage yet. They all wanted to see our cute little babies. The thought of me ever having kids scared me. With the life I led, I wasn't sure I'd even be able to have kids.
SIghing, I could only smile and tell them to be patient. I was not going to force shunsuke into anything. He had to deal with enough being forced here into the Shadow World. Marriage was a huge step, even for me. My first engagement had proven that to me.
Chance found me again. "Are you avoiding me?" he asked. It was true. I had always ducked into a conversation with some people every time I had caught sight of him. That, or I would engross myself into whatever Shunsuke was saying, not that that had been very hard.
I shrugged. "I suppose I am. Wouldn't you if the situation were reversed?"
"What, a good guy who clearly loves you wanting to be with you? Nah, I think I'd stay put and let him come into my arms," chance grinned with his usual cocky grin.
I shook my head. "Look, it's been a long night. I'm going to go to my room, and I suggest you go to yours." I turned and headed out of the hall and down the corridor to my room.
Upon entering, I hurriedly stepped out of my dress. It was one of my favorites, but I never was one to like to be dressed up for very long. I pulled all of the pins out of my hair before I stepped into my sleepwear. Brushing my teeth, I heard a soft knock on the door.
Rinsing my mouth before I went to open the door, I found Chance standing outside. He gave me a once over before pushing his way into my room. I closed the door behind him. "By all means, come right in," I said sarcastically. Sighing heavily, I walked over to my bed and grabbed my robe, wrapping myself up with it. "What do you want Chance?"
He was standing outside on the balcony, the cool night breeze blowing his hair into his face. He turned and looked at me. His usual cockiness was gone, instead seriousness lined his features. "I want you, Kay."
I shook my head, crossing my arms over my chest. "This again? Chance, you have no chance. I'm with shunsuke, and the sooner you accept that the better."
He was at my side in seconds, grasping my arms tightly. "Why aren't I good enough for you?" his eyes were pleading with me to understand him, to see he was a good guy.
"Chance, you're a good guy, you deserve better than me. Shunsuke is just better for me than you were," I tried to pull out of his grip, but he held onto me firmly. I looked into his eyes. "Our spark went out years ago."
"See if this lights anything in you," he said as he pulled me into him, planting a kiss desperately on my lips.
