Chapter 22

As I laid in my bed, I thought back to the conversation Hyaku and I had hours before. He wanted me to consider him, Hana, and Koori as my friends. And, I guess they were as close to real friends as I was going to get. I sighed as I rolled over onto my side. Hyaku, he was a good guy, not at all like the person I had made him out to be.

I was again working with Hana on the books, but I couldn't concentrate. I wanted to start fighting with Koori and begin my training. It was what I had most looked forward to for the past day.

Sighing, Hana gave me a look, slapping the page gently in front of me, "You aren't concentrating," she told me.

"Sorry," I told her. "I'm a little anxious to start my training." I gave her a small smile.

"Might as well just start the training, then. Otherwise, you won't be retaining any of this," Hana gave in. "I'll go get Koori. Just stay here."

I nodded and went out into the lawn out the sliding door. After a moment, Hyaku came into the room. "Where's Hana? Aren't you studying?" he asked, looking around the room and out the door at where I was standing.

I gestured out one of the doors. "She's going to get Koori to train me. I wonder what he's going to teach me first. Sword fighting, hand to hand, some kind of martial arts, maybe?"

Hyaku chuckled. "Before any of that, you'll have to start working out and getting your body into shape so that you have the stamina and strength behind your moves. Start off with a hundred push-ups."

"What?" I asked, frowning.

"You want to be trained, I'm training you. Go."

I shook my head and got into position, starting to do the push-ups as instructed. However, I was only able to do twenty before my arms began to shake. But, I was not going to give up. I was going to prove to him I could handle this.
