Chapter 46

"I am Hyaku's betrothed," the woman, who had followed Hyaku into the temple and interrupted my training, smiled down at me. "We were seven years ago." I frowned in confusion.

"Were?" I asked for clarification. If they were in the past, then I hoped I wouldn't have anything to worry about. I was training to become a priestess, sure. But, if these demon decided to pick a fight with me, I knew I was not going to be able to hold my own.

She looked up at Hana "Oi, Hana-san, I see your still serving under hyaku-sama's control." Wow, she was such a great people person.

Hana growled under her breath; this was the angriest I had ever seen Hana. This woman sure knew how to bring out the best in the people around her.

"Rin" Hyaku warned, his eyes flashing, telling her to stop it.

Rin simply ignored the idle warning and continued on as if nothing was amiss. "Oi Hyaku, I forgot to say I will be staying in here if it isn't too much of a bother. Right Lin?" Rin said glaring at me.

What had I done for her to dislike me so? I had only just met her. Was she jealous?

"Just stay out of our way" Hyaku growled, pushing me out of the temple and down the hall. "Koori, show Rin and Lin to their rooms." Koori nodded and turned to his charges.

"What about her training?" Hana called out after us.

"I'll handle it for today!" Hyaku called back over his shoulder. His grip on my wrist was gentle, yet urgent to get me away from the group of demons that loitered in his home.

"Hyaku," I said, pulling my hand out of his grasp. "I can walk on my own." I didn't enjoy being drug around like a rag doll. I couldn't keep up with his fast pace.

"Sorry," he murmured, pulling me into his study. Closing the door behind him, he turned and faced me. "I don't think it would be a wise decision for you to ever be alone with Rin."

I crossed my arms over my chest, my eyebrows raised. "As if I'd want to. IF looks could kill, I'd be long gone."

"I mean it. Rin gets rather jealous, and she'll do anything to get what she wants. This includes being nice to you to get close to you," he warned me, coming to stand next to me, leaning against the desk.

"I planned on staying as close to your side as possible," I admitted. "As least while she's around. I don't feel like getting my eyes scratched out or something."

"She'd do far worse than that," he told me, circling a hand around my waist.

I leaned into him, enjoying the comfort that was his arms. Taking a deep breath, I took in his scent, relishing in his smell. Smiling, I snuggled my head into the crook of his arm, enjoying the moment.
