"What about you?" Hyaku asked, looking up at me.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Did you have any past relationships?" he asked rather seriously. I didn't have relationships; I had one night stands with the men that came into the tavern and bought me for the night. I had had no choice in the matter, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to tell him about that. I didn't want him to look at me differently.
"Well," I was about to answer when Rin appeared. She smirked at me before addressing Hyaku.
"Hyaku, glad to find you here. I need to speak to you urgently," she said, though her voice was less than urgent.
"I will be there," Hyaku replied.
She nodded before turning to stare at me for a moment. Then, she smiled. She was up to something, and I was scared for Hyaku's sake more than my own. Her black hair bounced on her back as she made her way back down the corridor.
Hyaku sighed, pushing off from the desk. "I better go see what's up. We can continue this later." He turned and made for the door, but I grabbed his wrist, unsure of how to put my feelings into words. He turned and looked back at me puzzled.
I met his gaze. "Please don't go see her," I begged, not liking the sound of jealousy in my voice. I wasn't envious, I was worried.
"The sooner I go see her, the sooner she'll get out of here and out of our lives," he told me. When my expression didn't change, he turned and cupped a hand on my cheek. "Hey, hey, I don't like this anymore than you do, but I have to do this."
"I feel like she's planning on doing something to you," I told him. "At least take Koori or Hana in there with you."
"IF I take Koori, will that ease you?" he asked. After I nodded, he kissed my forehead and left the study. I sighed, unsure of what to do with myself. I decided that going back to the temple and studying would be my best bet.
