I worked with Hana for a short period of time before my nervousness took hold. I found my mind wandering to how Hyaku was doing, dealing Rin and Lin. What was that demon planning, anyway? She couldn't have Hyaku, certainly not without a fight from me.
Rin was pretty, she had that over me, but I had Hyaku's love and trust. When had I become so corny? I wondered with an internal cringe at the thought. Sighing for the thousandth time, I turned back to the book and reread the same line over again.
"Why don't you just go and check up on Hyaky?" Hana suggested. "You'll be more at ease. You aren't retaining any of this." She gave me a small smile. Standing up, she went out to the gardens. "I want to go pick more herbs and medicinal plants."
"Thanks, Hana!" I said, standing up and heading out of the temple. I walked as though I was on a mission, making my way to Hyaku's study to see if he was back yet.
Knocking once, I opened the door as Rin left. She gave me a very obvious smirk before brushing passed me. I gave her an odd look as she walked down the corridor back to her room.
Pushing the door open, I made my way into the study, where Hyaku was hunched over some papers. "How did the talk go with Rin?" I asked, sitting down on a chair a few feet away from him.
"What?" he asked, looking up. Turning to me, he frowned slightly. "What are you doing in here?"
"I'm checking up on you," I shrugged. "I was worried about you. I don't like the idea of you and Rin being alone together. She's definitely up to something, and I don't want you to get hurt."
"Rin would never do anything bad to me," he assured me. "Now, you should leave. I have a lot I need to get done." I frowned, but complied. I thought I heard him call me a servant. Frowning, I turned and watched him work. Turning, I caught Rin smirking at me from the entry way to her room.
