My sword was my new best friend as I fended off Rin's assaults. She was good, darn good. But, I had been trained by the best, and I'd be damned if I was going to let all that hard work go to waste.
"Give it up, girl," she told me. "Your precious Hyaku won't survive the battle," Rin threatened menacingly.
I glanced over at Hyaku and Shun fighting. Rin had put up a barrier so as to keep me from helping Hyaku. I figured if I could at least tire Rin down, the barrier would weaken and I could make my way to him.
The fighting seemed to take forever, but I knew only long minutes were passing. I was growing weary as was everyone else in this way. Rin had gotten a few blows in my shoulder, but I had gotten her in the thigh, making it hard for her to walk, but my blows were weaker.
She laughed as she sliced open my side. "Soon, soon you will be joining Hyaku in death," she laughed, looking over my shoulder.
Frowning, I turned around and looked. There stood Shun, his sword embedded into Hyaku's chest. "HYAKU!" I cried a blood curdling scream as I scrambled to my feet racing towards him. Rin jumped in front of me, but I had known she was going to do that, so I had swung my sword and stabbed her in the abdomen as she materialized in front of me. Pulling my sword out of her, I continued my sprint towards Hyaku.
The barrier around him had long since vanished now that Rin was at her weakest. Hyaku dropped to his knees as I closed in on him, he was falling to the ground as I reached him. I was able to catch him, but it was too late. He was already long gone from this world. "You can't leave me," I sobbed. I shook my head as tears streamed down my cheeks as I rocked back and forth, holding him to my chest.
"Do not fret, for you will be joining him," Shun's voice sneered at me from behind. He was holding his sword, resting it on his left shoulder as he looked down at me.
I ignored him as I kept rocking back and forth. I looked up into the overcasted sky. "Please," I whispered. "Please save him. Take me instead." Hyaku was the demon Lord of these lands. Without him, the world would succumb to Shun's darkness. I was no match against them. I would gladly give up my life in exchange.
