Food.
I smelled food, and plenty of it. I sat up in my bed and rubbed at my eyes, trying to ignore the sun bearing down on me from behind my lacy curtains.
All night I had tried to tend to the clu...

Keefer
"Don't you talk to me that way!"
"Or what, you'll hit me again? Go ahead! It'll be the last time you touch me!"
"You little--"
"Stop. I'm not afraid of you and I'm not staying here one more day. You can try taking care of those kids on your own."
"Oh, so you'll stick me with that monster son of yours?"
"You deserve that monster."
"No one deserves him!"
"Well you're stuck with him, so get used to it."
A monster. That's all I was to anyone. I'd thought I'd gotten used to it until that day. The day it came out of my own mother's mouth right before she slammed the door in Dad's face for the last time. My little sister Melina cried herself to sleep that night, and the gunshot didn't wake her up. I was glad. Wouldn't have wanted her to see Dad like that, even if he had been a jerk.
Who knows why that time was replaying in my head right then. Not that it was unusual. I hated memories, that one most of all. Thankfully, the strange scent brought me out of it. I looked up to see this guy walking toward me. That wouldn't have been strange if I hadn't been sitting in an alley. Great. Time to move again. I stood up slowly, just in case he hadn't already seen me.
"There you are."
"Excuse me?"
"I've been looking for you."
Looking for me? Crap. I looked around, checking for escape routes.
"Relax. I just want to talk."
"Yeah. The last guy who said that tried to take my head off with a knife."
"Keefer, I'm not a bad guy."
"Whoawhoawhoa. How do you know my name and who the heck are you?"
"I can explain everything if you come with me."
"Um....right. I'll pass, thanks."
He looked at me with those creepy green eyes, and there was something there...I don't know if I can explain it. I felt like I wasn't really alone. Like he understood how I felt. "Do you want to belong somewhere, Keefer?"
I don't know why I did it, but I nodded.
"Then come with me."
And for some reason, I did. I had no clue what I was in for, but for once, I felt like I wouldn't be in it alone.

[√] I understand, you have my permission. I wish to join the club.
Character's Full Name: Ami Elliot Nowlan
Pronunciation: Ah-Mee
Species: Fish-Human Hybrid
Abilities: Can breathe underwater because of the gills on her neck.
Age: 17 but looks younger.
Height: 5 foot 5 inches
Hair: Long sky blue hair down to her lower back. Tied in a red bow at the end. Three small bangs.
Eye Color(s): Sea greenish blue
Skin Color(s) Pale in dimly lit locations. Scales around her wrists, ankles, neck and under her right eye shimmer in the sunlight.
Personality: She is shy around new people, but once she makes a friend she becomes more open and kind. She likes to help her friends if they have a problem, and will listen thoughtfully to anyone’s troubles. She enjoys praise and will even start crying if something nice is done for her. Can be a bit of an airhead and is naïve to anything romantic.
Looks: Small patch of scales under right eye, around her neck, wrists, and ankles. Shines red, purple, green, and blue in bright light, dark blue in normal lighting.
Appearance: People assume she’s anorexic and would never guess she is malnourished. Some are startled by the marking under her right eye, but most assume its face paint or make-up. Her inverted nature can make people believe she is a serious person, but really, she just wants to have fun and laugh with friends and be a normal girl.
Outfit/Style: Wears a mechanism around her neck that supplies water so she can breathe on land. Favors flowing, free clothing, but her mother forces to wear long sleeved turtle neck shirts, scarves, and hoodies, to cover her scars and bruises from beatings, and to cover her mechanism and scales.
Likes: The beach, and all water in general. Calm atmospheres, dancing, reading, singing, laughing and bubbles. Bright colors.
Dislikes: Fire and smoke. Tight spaces, being confined, large cities, pollution, and crowds of people.
Strengths: Can speak to aquatic beings. Honest and willing to go to any means for her friends. The scales under her right eye and around her neck, wrists, and ankles are tough and cannot be scathed easily.
Weaknesses: Gets cold or hot easily, pretty much useless in hand to hand combat. Claustrophobic and suffers the occasional panic attack.
Fears: Her mother, enclosed spaces, heights, bears or other large, scary animals.
Relationships: She has trouble trusting people she’s just met, but she is very kind and warm to people that she knows. She’s never been in a relationship and is somewhat naïve when it comes to them.
Family: Her two elder sisters blame her for their fathers leaving, and always put her down. Her father left when she was three, ashamed of his freakish third daughter. Ami’s mother favors her elder sisters and abuses her whenever she is intoxicated, angered, or depressed.
History: Ami was born into a wealthy family, and the first few years of her life were spent in a loving family environment. But everything went downhill once her father left. In public appearances he denied the existence of his third daughter, and claimed to only have two. He was disgusted with Ami’s appearance, and he was ashamed to tell his colleges of his third daughter. Eventually he got fed up with the shame, and he left. With her father out of the picture, Ami’s mother became depressed and began drinking. She now blames Ami for her husbands’ leaving, and takes out all of her sorrows by beating Ami. Ami’s sisters resent her for making their mother unhappy, and now go out of their way to make her life miserable.
Woo!
