Food.
I smelled food, and plenty of it. I sat up in my bed and rubbed at my eyes, trying to ignore the sun bearing down on me from behind my lacy curtains.
All night I had tried to tend to the club members’ wounds and learn their names. After all, what kind of hostess doesn’t get to know her guests? It had been an interesting night, filled with interesting guests, and now it would be time for an interesting breakfast!
To join their club, or not to join their club? It sure seemed like a lot of fun, to be surrounded by others similar to you. I got out of my bed and began to put on one of my cutest dresses. As I was pulling down the sleeves and buttoning the cuffs, I noticed a long, grey scar on my arm. I stared at it intensely, trying to figure out where I had gotten it, but to no avail.
When I failed to place a memory with the scar, I quickly pulled the sleeve down over it and began to button it up. It had been happening more recently now. First my wings wouldn’t work, and now I had been finding strange scars on my body that I had no remembrance of. I tried to not think about it; I’m sure I’d remember on my own, and that my wings would fix themselves in due time.
Suddenly, I heard the clatter of dishes and faint chit chat coming from downstairs.
I made my way down to see most of the club gathering around a breakfast feast. Akira was serving out food to all the members. I gasped and ran over to her side.
“Oh no! You didn’t have to do this at all Akira!” I was embarrassed.
“I wanted to.” she smiled. “I‘m the leader after all.”
“Well, at least let me help you with the condiments!” I exclaimed, dashing to the cabinets to get the rest of the food out for everyone.
And as I predicted, we had an interesting breakfast. It was nice seeing everyone interact with each other, whether for better or for worse.
After the breakfast, everyone began to gather up their things while Akira, Acacia and I cleared the table and washed the dishes. I tried to convince them I could do it, since they had a big trip ahead of them, but they insisted on helping me.
Afterwards, as promised, I guided them to the airport. As everyone got tickets for the next plane to America, Akira and Sebastian stood over her laptop in one of the waiting areas. Akira seemed to be insisting something that Sebastian didn’t like, and eventually he sighed and went towards another part of the airport.
“Is there something troubling you?” I asked her, trying to be helpful.
“Not anything new, no.” she shut her laptop and rubbed her temples. “I’m sending Sebastian out to collect more members. Speaking of which, you joining us or not?”
I adjusted my giant, floppy sun hat and showed her my passport. “Yes ma’am!”
