Aerith

Running. That's what they always asked me to do.

"Not fast enough Aerith," Those green, grey eyes bored into my skull, calculating, analyzing. "Not good enough."

"Shut up!" I drew a ragged breath from my collapsing chest. The serum was at its height: my senses were overloaded with smells and sounds I shouldn't really be hearing.

"Do you think this is going to make you something to even look at? At this rate your so-called leader should have cut you off from the start! A water dragon who refuses to adapt? Pathetic."

The sound of clipped heels was the only thing I could see beyond the haze of red clouding my vision.

No one walked away. Not when I had tried so hard. I felt a change in my stride; something deadly and powerful was unleashed.

"Come. Back. HERE!" I was beyond feeling the jolts of electricity as they ripped through my body. Adrenaline found favor in my cause and allowed me to vault over the treadmill and thunder to the glass. I raised my fists that used to be held up to bless those seeking peace and brought them down in rage.

"COME BACK HERE!" The glass shook underneath my fists. Was this really what I was reduced to? A beast driven by desperation and rage?

"Now that's what I want to hear." Slowly, the footsteps returned and out of the shadows emerged the scientist of my every dream and waking nightmare.

"Somehow I was expecting more," A woman dressed in a half buttoned up lab coat strode in, her hips swaying like those materialistic girls that so often visited the South temple. Peace was not what they sought, neither direction. What they wanted was a shiny mirror to see inside their souls and reflect the nothingness they were.

"Looks can be deceiving Camilla, you should know that of all people," Sam followed the woman, his eagerness easily discernible. "I think if we really wanted to, Locke could be entered-"

"I've been in to look at Locke and he is not in any condition to fight," Camilla quickly interjected. She flicked her hair and pretended to fiddle with a machine from the other side of the glass.

The glass cage was positioned in the center of a white room. Five strides by four and only a full arm length above my head. In the middle was a titanium treadmill equipped with electrical nodes that were fed straight to my nervous system.

"It's so fun watching their blood boil," Camilla leaned closer to the meter that measured my blood count and pressure. "Literally!" She giggled and flicked the arrow.

"Camilla! Don't touch anything! If you even mess up one thing, it will you who has to report--"

"Pushy pushy," She straightened up and walked around the cage, her hands folded nonchalantly behind her back. "She doesn't talk much, does she? What is it anyways? Looks normal enough to me... if a bad taste in hair color." I watched her through slitted eyes.

"Sam, a word." A figure in black morphed out of the shadow and tapped the blonde haired man on the shoulder.

"Camilla, go check on someone else." Sam flicked his wrist and walked after the other man. A silence fell where it was just the two of us. The caged in body and the slave of the mind.

"When you wake up little freak, you'll be a whole new breed of bad." Camilla snorted and trailed a manicured hand along the glass as she exited the room. Even after the outside door had shut, I could still hear her laughing.

5 HOURS LATER

I woke up with the disoriented feeling that I had never been sleeping. A cold grey sky stretched for miles in either direction and for a second I truly believed I was free; then came the shuffling of feet.

Griffin, Dante, Ela, Nai, Akira, Kaki, Bellinda, Alice, Rano, and Vevilia. All 11 of us stood in a circle with half lidded eyes and no sign of recognition registering on anyone's face.

"Well, isn't this just an exciting group?" Three people emerged from a platform in the floor: Camilla, whom I sure most of us knew, Sam, with his forked tongue in tow, and the dark haired scientist. There was an instant reaction suggesting that one of these three people must have haunted the club member's living nightmares. "That's the spirit I want to see!"

"Want to see something else?" Ela smirked nastily and drew her fist back, only to have it jerked to a halt inches from Sam's face. She fell in a heap, clutching the sides of her head, but saying no more.

"Discipline is a major issue. Don't worry, we have a serum for that." Sam pushed Ela back with the heel of his boot before continuing. "If you want the simple fact: you're all here to fight. Before we can reach our next phase of technology and adaptions, we need to test your true strength." He walked around the circle with his eyes conveying messages of sinister delight.

"That is the most stupidist sh-" Vevilia took a threatening step forward. I saw that she was gloveless and her hands looked even more gnarled and aged. If only she would feed off Sam's life force...

"Shall I?" The remaining scientist pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. There was something weirdly familiar about him that made me want to love and hate him at the same time.

"No," Sam smiled sadly at Vevilia. "She'll learn once this has begun."

"Once what has begun?" Griffin's voice sounded hoarse from screaming. I guess ours all did. Screaming was the only thing that reminded us that we were united under one cause: revenge.

"You have 3 hours to do your worst. The only rules are: You can't kill anyone, if you try to commit suicide.. well, things will just get worse for you, and remember, we're always watching you." Camilla threw us the peace sign before the platform started to sink again. Sam stepped onto it and that was the last we saw of them.

"You may begin." That innocent, yet slightly deranged voice was one I thought I knew.. did I? Did I know anyone in this circle anymore? Let's see... Akira... Griffith- no no, it wasn't Griffith. Something different... There was a vampire, right?

I snapped my head back just as a quilled arm swung backwards where my neck should have been. It belonged to a girl with red eyes and furry ears... A-Aki? Why couldn't I remember her?

There was no spare time for thinking about trivial things like names. It was life or death.

Duck. Duck. Turn, jump, kick. The front of my foot caught the tree girl's leg and we were both sent into a deadly spin. Four turns and I was down.

A water dragon who refuses to adapt? Pathetic. My head throbbed and I tasted the metallic tang of blood in my mouth. Pathetic.

Pathetic? Just that word made my skin grow hot! I could adapt! Just watch me! I just had to be able to prove myself.

I was running again, but this time for a purpose. Just when I thought I could make it to my target, I acquired a shadow. This one moved like me, ran with the same determined stride, but had years of practiced grace. Could this be an even match?

We thudded into each other: the shorter girl knocking my head against the hard floor. I threw her off and once again, we were grappling. My chest burned from the lack of oxygen and my shoulder blades felt like they were on fire.

“Let. Me. Go!” I thrashed and managed to roll out from under the vampire girl. Her hand connected with the ground, causing a sizable dent in the sheet metal.

“Nice dodge, beast.” Her smile flashed the canines that dripped with saliva and something slightly darker.

I had just enough time to scramble backwards as the boy with scaled wings crashed into the other girl, not out of his own will. His arm lay at a weird angle with scores of scratches along it and he didn't move.

"Look, now you've ruined all the fun! Bad Dante, looks like you're disqualified." The boy with black wings looked to the false sky and held out his hands. He cried something in Italian and looked around him in a disoriented state.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a girl making her way to the limp boy. Her hand was flicking through a series of dangerous weapons: Sword, knife, gun, chainsaw, sledgehammer, axe-- then it all stopped. She shook her head and the appendage returned to normal.

Suddenly, I had the sickening feeling of vertigo. The sky looked darker than it did a second ago- no! It was a shadow. A shadow of someone holding something warm and beating.

"You should have been watching me, fool."

"My... hea-" Blood bubbled from my lips.

Was I truly free from this torture? Could I go home to Yeye?

Those unanswered questions followed me to my watery grave where not even dead men could comfort me with their glassy eyes.

As you can tell I have no idea what I'm doing ;D

There's a reason my two-cents worth has little to no fighting: it sounds really dumb when I write it. But oh well. I didn't mean to make your characters sound really weak in case I did. I'm so sorry ;____;

Don't worry Aerith isn't dead. I think. The rest is up to you... and your slightly brainwashed OC's.
