KEEFER
So...I finally managed to escape Vi and her..."relationship advice". That was so awkward there wasn't even a word for it. Almost felt like she was getting back at me for something. Did she know about Kateri? Felt like everybody did. And honestly, I'd kind of been avoiding Kateri for a couple days. I didn't know what to say to her, and she probably thought I was a creep. I flopped back on my bed, only to sit up again when the door opened. Melina stood in the doorway, arms crossed. Uh oh.
"We need to talk."
"What did I do now..."
"Nothing, but that's part of the problem."
I cocked my head.
"Tell me about Keteri."
Crap. "What about her?"
"You like her."
"You're crazy."
"And you're really red right now."
"D*** it."
"Language...why are you avoiding her if you like her?"
"What else am I supposed to do?"
"Um, tell her you like her? Do something nice for her? Go out on a date?"
I didn't answer. The truth was...those things all kind of scared me. Melina sighed and sat next to me. "Keef, we've been through a lot. Life hasn't been that nice to either of us, but now things are finally getting better. This is a good thing. Let it happen."
"Mel...there's a lot she doesn't know..."
"So when the time is right, tell her. Not like she'll freak out because you're a werewolf or something. And she'll still love you."
I shot her a look.
"Okay okay, too soon for the 'L' word. Just go talk to her, okay?"
"Fine...."
"Oh. And you should wear blue. It's her favorite color."
"Duh. Not color blind."
Mel gigglged. "And can it be something with no holes or screamo group logos?"
"Um...that pretty much eliminates my entire wardrobe."
"Oh my gosh we are going to take you shopping asap."
"We?"
She winked, got up and skipped out of the room. Sisters.
The next morning, breakfast smelled to good to skip. Violett had made bacon and eggs, and I made up a plate. Then I saw Kateri. Great...I was really tempted to slip back upstairs. Instead, I found myself sitting next to her.
"Keefer! What's up, dude? I'm really happy to see you!"
"I'm okay...it's good to see Melina again." What the crap. Sitting next to the girl you like and you start talking about your sister? Mel was gonna beat me!
"Yeah! I was really happy to meet her." Kateri smiled, then looked at me. "...Keffer, what is going on with us?"
"Excuse me?" D*** it, she knew too?!
"Well...umm...I just..." Tears started sliding down her cheeks, then she was sobbing. A stream of words started pouring out between sobs and I could only make out about half of what she was saying. When she stopped, she just looked up at me, still with tears in her eyes. Carefully, I slid an arm around her. I didn't know what else to do. "Kateri...it's gonna be okay."
She looked kind of surprised. A good surprised. I smiled a little, pulled her close and hugged her. We stayed that way for a while, not saying anything.
"Hey...Teri?"
"Hmm?" She looked up at me again.
"Would...do you...if..." I was so not good at this... "If we went on a fate, what kind of date would it be?"
