Concussion

ALICE

I trudged slowly towards the elevator to my room. Each step was like a stab in my foot. Actually, I think I have a shard of glass wedged in my shoe. I lifted my foot up slowly and tried to grab onto the small fragment of glass. I threw it into a nearby trashcan as I neared the lobby. Don’t want anyone getting hurt now. I hadn’t felt this beat up since my siblings tried to kill me in the forest. Why wasn’t I healing right away?
I managed to hit the elevator button and collapsed on the ground as I waited. It must have been making a lot of stops because it took about fifteen seconds to arrive back down. A few men in business suits walked out holding their briefcases close to their sides and making idle chitchat with each other. They didn’t seem to notice me on the floor so I quickly crawled into the elevator just as the doors closed once again. I could’ve been crushed right then. They say the doors will retract if they hit something, but I’ve almost been crushed by elevator doors multiple times.
The elevator was reflexive so normally people would be able to see their reflection on the sides. It’s weird not being able to see your reflection. I narrowed my eyes as I stared harder into the reflection. There was a faint outline. Was that me?
“Why isn’t your reflection showing up?” I heard a voice behind me and I nearly jumped out of my skin. Was he standing there the whole time? “Are you a vampire?” Oh no! I’ve been figured out!
“What in the world?” I gasped for air and grabbed onto the guard rail to steady myself. My fingers were beginning to make small indentations in the rail. “Have-have you been there the whole time?”
“Me?” He asked.
Nah, my imaginary friend.
“Yes.” I rolled my eyes.
“Nope, I just popped up.” He said.
I immediately slammed the back of my hand against my forehead. Am I hallucinating? I stumbled over to the other side of the elevator and tried to touch the boy’s shoulder but my hand fell right through him. So I have a concussion. I better get to bed.
I turned around quickly and looked around. Where am I? What is this box? I pressed my hands against the sides of the elevator. “Help!” I screamed. I don’t know who I was screaming too. I can’t remember how to get out. I threw myself down on the ground and curled into a ball. I don’t do well with small spaces. I looked around and saw the buttons on the wall near the door.
Oh yeah. Floor…what floor was I on? I fiddled in my pocket for my key. 3? 2? I don’t know. I pressed the “door open” button and the elevator doors slid open. I quickly crawled back out and managed to stand myself up. My head was spinning and I had to walk against the wall to keep from falling. The room seemed as though it were rotating and I was standing still. I tried to feel around for the welcome desk.
“Ma’am?” I heard a hotel employee ask. “Do you need help?”
“Yeah.” I said.
The person took my arm and led me over to a chair.
“Thanks.” I said. “I can’t remember what room I’m in.”
“What’s your name?” She asked.
“Alice Eyre.” I answered.
“I’ll go check for you.” She hurried back over to the welcome desk and started typing away on the computer. In a minute she was back over to me with a piece of paper in her hand. It looked like a sticky note. She handed it to me. Here you go. It’s on the second floor.”
“Could you take me there?” I asked.
“Do you need a doctor?” She asked.
“No! No doctors! I feel fine!” I said attempting to stand up. “I can take on the worldddd…”
“Sure you can.” She smiled with a worried look on her face. “Come with me.” She took my arm again and led me over to the elevator. The box of death.
“I hate this thing.” I said.
“Really? Are you claustrophobic?”
“I’m not sure.” I answered going back over to my corner of the elevator. The receptionist pushed the button for the second floor and watched as the doors closed. I felt a sudden lift as the elevator lifted upwards for five seconds and then came to a stop.
I peered around in bewilderment as I heard a beep and the doors opened. The receptionist helped me up off the ground and helped me walk down the hall. Suddenly the walls turned into sand and it widened into a beach. My toes crinkled up in the side.
“Wait! It’s hot out here!” I said trying to find cover. I tripped over a sand dune and fell onto the sand. When I opened my eyes, I was lying on the hotel floor. The carpet was hard.
“What happened?” She asked. “Are you having hallucinations?”
“Are you real?” I asked as I poked her in the cheek.
“Please don’t touch my face.” She said moving my finger away. We arrived at what seemed to be my hotel room. I fumbled for the key in my pocket and opened the door.
“Thanks!” I said.
“Now, go straight to bed, okay?” She said.
“Right, right.” I wanted to go over to the bakery today but looks like I’ll take a nap instead. I disappeared behind the door and collapsed on the ground. This hammock is so comfortable. I always wanted a hammock! “Hehehe.”
The End

Okay, so all done with Alice’s post. I can’t wait to see what the plot twist is!
