Alex Loris Chapter 2

“Ha! Parkour! That girl is good!” Calista stood laughing as Robin jumped out the window. Alex turned and looked at Freya who was heading towards the door at a fast pace.
“Ms. Freya? Are you leaving so soon?”
“Yes. I have to teach that brat a lesson. Tell your Aunt that I won’t be coming back today so she can keep the money.” With that, Freya stormed out the door.
“Will you tell her?” Alex turned to Calista as she calmed down.
“Yes of course.” She started for the stairs but before she ventured down them she turned and looked back at him. “I hope that girl gets fed more often now.”
The next day was below 30 degrees but the sky showed no chance of snow.
Alex smiled at Robin and then at Calista as the two entered the room together but he didn’t say anything. The whole day passed and he never mumbled a word, even when Lafi, Calista’s younger brother, came by to play a quick one on one game of soccer. The day passed by and he never even came across Jennifer except for passing her in the hallways.
Something was bothering him but he wasn’t sure what. Maybe it was the fact that he was threatened all yesterday by his Aunt or because he was slowly losing his moral. He couldn’t speak, he couldn’t eat, he couldn’t sleep, and what was worse is that it was becoming harder and harder each day to face his friends.
‘12’ he thought. ‘I think I’ll go and explore the train tracks. Maybe even see someone I know, or at least can talk to.’
Alex slipped out of his bedroom window and dropped two stories to the ground. Running down a worn off path into the dark woods, he turned into a clearing to see twin railroad tracts that stopped halfway in the clearing. They looked as though they were suddenly cut off because the tract gave the feeling as if it was meant to go somewhere but those who were building it didn’t know where. There was a large wooden crate placed at the end of the rails. It was too hard to open and too huge and heavy to move so the town just left the box there. People stopped coming to the tracks so it was a safe place to go to actually get to talk with Calista. The tracts were just outside of town making a perfect place for Calista to practice her violin because any sound made there couldn’t be heard from the houses nearby. Sadly she was not there at that hour but she would probably be there in a few more hours, if not a few minutes.
Alex sprawled out across the tracks and stared up at the starry sky.
“Orion, Monoceros, Lepus, Caelum… heh Caelum. That was a fun game. Too bad Aunt Jennifer caught me.” He laughed a little remembering a few years ago when he explored a local game store that gave him a few free games plus a console that he had to give to Lafi.
“I just don’t know what to do anymore…” He sat up and went over to the crate and stood atop it. He started think about all that had happened all his life and he started to sing. At first it was quiet and slow but it gained speed and loudness little by little.

So I wait
For the truth
And so I wait
For you

As I wait
In the light
I am pulled
Into the night

Do not wait for me
As I wait for you
For we may never meet
And never find the truth

Is there light?
Is there Darkness?
Is there song or is there silence?
Can we be heard or are we left alone?

I will not let my life submit to all the lies
As I wait for the truth
As I wait for you…

His voice trailed off into the wind, awaiting it’s end at dawn.
