A Doctor Who-y Christmas

This Christmas has been chock full of Doctor Who in one form or another for me.

I got some books from both Raina and Ichigo (although I told them what to get). Thanks to both of you. 8D For some reason though, the books I ordered myself well before Christmas still haven't arrived... *pokes the mailbox*

Last week I bought three classic series episodes - The War Machines, Colony in Space, and Remembrance of the Daleks: Special Edition - while dad got the Season 6 box set for me... Which my sister had also got me. Derp. So, dad took it back and exchanged it for a gift card of the same amount. I had also found an old gift card that still had some money on it when I was cleaning out my room. So today we went to the bookstore and I splurged on four more dvds - The Rescue/The Romans, The Monster of Peladon, The Horns of Nimon, and Black Orchid. And the guy at the bookstore said next week on Jan 3 they'll have a Buy-2-Get-1-Free sale, so I'll have to go back and get even more Doctor Who. P:

Now all I need to do is get a new DVD or Blu-Ray player to replace my old and ailing DVD/VCR.

Better than TV Land

While my uncle was visiting this weekend, he told me of a digital channel he discovered called Me-TV, that plays a lot of classic television shows. I checked and sure enough, we have it to (up at 486, where I assumed was nothing but subscription and pay-per-view channels).

I have to say, Me-TV completely pwns TV Land for classic television. There is so much more variety on this station: besides some things you would expect like MASH (uncut, which is awesome) and Bonanza, there are also comedies that I don't think have been played on TV in ages, like Car 54, Where Are You? and Doby Gillis. They have a lot of crime shows too, from Perry Mason to Hawaii Five-0, The Untouchables, Kojak, Columbo, Canon, Naked City, and fantasy/scifi stuff like The Wild, Wild West, original Star Trek, Svengoolie (a proto-MST/Elvira style show), Lost in Space, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

I think I'm really going to enjoy watching this channel. Frankly, TV Land sucks compared to this.

So now I have to always look in a book before I buy it?

Otherwise I'll get a book that starts on Page 27. Yep, apparently one of the books I bought today is missing all the copyright and title stuff, and most of the first three chapters. So I'll have to take it back tomorrow. I didn't see another copy though, so it'll have to go on order. Good thing its the second book of the series, I can read book 1 while I wait.

In other book news, the new used book shop I donated a lot of my excess books to has gone out of business. I don't think used book shops can survive around here anymore, since they've all closed. People just don't go to them anymore, they order online or they've gone electronic. I have to wonder if any of my donated books sold, and what's happened to their stock since they've shut down.

Meanwhile, I finally had to start renting my own locker at the storage place we've been using forever. We're expecting a greater confluence of relatives being here at Christmas, so we want to clear out the room at grandma's house I've been using for storage. And because our two existing lockers are full, I had to get one of my own.

EDIT

I'm updating the post rather than replying directly, since this reply can be directed at all three comments so far.

The book wasn't actually damaged. Nothing is ripped out. For some reason, this book just got bound improperly starting at Page 27. Go figure how that happened.

A Good Thanksgiving

I've had some problems with my lungs again in the last few days, but today managed to be pretty good. Monica is visiting, although she had to bring all twelve of her dogs (Pond didn't understand why she couldn't go over to grandma's house today). We had a big meal, with turkey, cornbread, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, gravy, green beans, green salad, fruit salad, crescent rolls, and pumpkin pie. And BBC America has been playing an all-day Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon.

All-in-all, quite a good day.
