For the last few months, Kamelot fans have been wondering and waiting... and now we have the sad news we didn't want to hear.
Before Kamelot were about to undertake their tour in support of their new album, lead singer Roy Khan fell ill. Although he originally stated he intended to return when he was better, it seems he eventually made the opposite decision. "Medical and personal reasons" were given for his hiatus, and explanations range from anxiety and depression, to a potential religious issue.
Personally, I'm not happy about this. Roy has one of the most amazing voices in contemporary metal music, and its never easy when someone who is literally the voice of one of your favorite bands decides to call it quits. I'm less happy if it really is due to his beliefs. What changed so much that his beliefs are suddenly incompatible with his work in the band? Despite this, its happened, and I can't do anything to change it.
So now its turn-the-page time. Time to see how Kamelot will carry on. I prefer to look to the future with hope that they will find someone equally as amazing who fits their style and takes the band into new territory.
