Was it worth it, CBS?

With new MythBusters in full swing, I haven't been keeping up with Criminal Minds, but after some quick research today I learned that not only is JJ returning (with A. J. Cook being given a new 2-year contract), but Prentiss is also returning next season as a full character, after a lengthy story-arc meant to see her off.

I knew that the show's cast and crew were vocally displeased with the network's cuts, leading to them letting Cook and Paget Brewster go. And I had said all along it didn't make sense to screw up a successful series when they were throwing money into a spin-off (I suppose the success of NCIS: Los Angeles made them think if it worked for one of their top shows, it could work for another).

So now Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior has been canceled, and the original is returning to the way it's meant to be. But I still have to wonder... WTF CBS? Why bother? Was it all worth it, messing with us like that? What was the point? >>;
