Marillion

I was going to post another in-depth Doctor Who guide, but even after working on for a few hours I've barely scratched the surface (of course I was distracted by conversations and other things, so only part of those few hours was actually spent working. But it does take a while to figure out the right words to use). Therefore the Doctor Who post is delayed until I can finish working on it. Hopefully I can psot it sometime Wednesday night.

Until then here is another music post.

Once disco and punk had taken over as the prevailing forms of popular music in the 70s, "progressive" became a dirty word within music circles, and with two of the founding prog-rock bands, Genesis and Yes, going over to the dark side of pop, it seemed the genre was doomed.

But in the 1980s, several bands (mostly British) strove to carry the flag, establish what would become known as "neoprog". Among these bands was Marillion (originally named Silmarillion after the JRR Tolkien book). Marillion continues to this day as one of the flagship neoprog bands.

Here is a video from their early years with their original vocalist, Fish (Derek W. Dick). The song is "Lavender", based on a tradtional English folk tune.
