A place for players of Super Smash Bros. Brawl to come together and talk, trade Brawl codes, and organize their own matches. Above all, have fun getting to know each other and laying some beat-downs in the game!

Ok, so for a long time now, I've been talking about how this World has needed some "change." Problem is, every time I try to go down a new path, I can't seem to get any interest. I think part of the problem is that I set my goals too high, too fast, without any base.

Therefore, I've decided to completely change the idea of the "OCL" by removing the "competitive league" aspect and replacing it with a place for Brawl players to just come, hang out, and organize their own matches, including just letting others know when you'll be available. To do this, I'll be allowing Guest Posting for numerous people as they become a part of the World.

So there it is. Maybe somewhat of a downgrade, but at least it'll keep Otakuites connected through Brawl. If a league or tournaments come of it, great. If not, that's fine too. Stay tuned for a brief list of people who will be getting Guest Poster status in the near future.

Giving You A Gift...Maybe

So if you're like me, you're excited about the new "Gifts" system on theOtaku. The ability to only send 3 per month is a nice touch on Adam's part, although it's made me think about who exactly I'm going to send Gifts to. Then the idea struck me: why not incorporate Gifts into the OCL?

With this in mind, I'm announcing that the ultimate champion of the upcoming Otaku Cup 2008 will receive a Gift. Which one? Well since there is a limit on how many Gifts can be sent, there's a chance you might not get a particular one you want. And who knows, maybe you're trying to get yourself a collection. Therefore, the Gift will be the winner's choice. Keep in mind, though, that I am a base Otakuite member, and until I advance to Senior Otaku, my Gift selection is somewhat limited. Also, the Gift will contain a message about being the Otaku Cup 2008 Grand Champion.

Also, as a little extra prize for the winner, I'll use my noobish Photoshop skills to whip up a championship banner for him/her to display wherever he/she wants. So hopefully that's a little more incentive to join the tournament. Join now by PM'ing me or get others to join!

A Fresh Start

As I hinted in my last post, it's time to completely give this World a new start. I want to get this thing off the ground, but it just isn't going to happen the way I wanted it to. So to try and get things moving, I've decided to try and organize one big tournament for Super Smash Bros. Brawl...

Otaku Cup 2008

This concept will be based off the recent Euro 2008 soccer tournament. Don't know much about it? You don't need to! I'm hoping to make this a large-scale tournament for theOtaku users, but I'll be happy with a smaller number too. I'll leave registration open for awhile, until I feel there's a good number to have a tournament (8, 16, 32). To "register," just send me a PM with your Brawl Code and your interest in playing. Like I said, I want to get this going, so the more people you tell, the faster it will be!

A Serious Re-tooling...

Ok, so I've been away for awhile, which means that I've seriously been neglecting this World. After spending some time thinking about it, I'm not sure a full season of play is the way to go just yet. I mean, what would happen if a season got midway through, then I had another month hiatus? It wouldn't be fair to everyone involved. So now it's time for me to re-think how this World is going to work.

So far, there hasn't been too much interest in the OCL. Sure, some people have given a verbal agreement, and two have even played, but nothing to really kick start everything. I think I need to start out smaller, then build up as more exposure is given.

How is this going to happen? I'm thinking of just holding some tournaments for now, then see what evolves from there. The recent Euro 2008 soccer tournament gave me the inspiration for a setup, and if I can get enough participants, I'll go with it. Tell me what you think, and recruit anyone you know who may be interested!

Thanks for all your patience, I hope now things will take a turn for the best!

Season Opener: Nabgeta vs. PyrusDragon

Yes, we're kicking this thing off! First match will be Nabgeta vs. PyrusDragon.

Nabgeta
Brawl Code: 5327-0560-5457
Roster: Samus, Shiek, Luigi
Home Stage: Summit
Best time to play: Approx. 7pm eastern

PyrusDragon
Brawl Code: 3179-6021-4429
Roster: Ike, Wolf, Toon Link
Home Stage: Castle Siege
Best Time to play: Approx. 11pm eastern

Now to explain how the match will work:

Home Stage: As you can see, I put your "home stage" as the stage you told me was your favorite/most interesting. I mentioned that picking a stage was important, and this is because you can pick a stage that gives you an advantage. How is this fair? Each person will get their turn, don't worry. Also, up until the Finals of the playoffs, home field advantage will be used, so choose wisely!
So this match will actually consist of 2 matches: one on Summit, one on Castle Siege. See? Balance!

Stock: For each of the two matches, 5 stock will be used. Obviously, first one to knock out the other player 5 times will be the winner.

Items: All items except for the Hammer, Golden Hammer, and Invincibility Star can be used. It IS the regular season, after all.

Roster: Big point here. The 3 characters listed in your roster (your favorite ones) are the ONLY characters you can use. However, you are NOT obligated to tell your opponent which one you're going to use, and you can switch characters for each match. For example, it can be Samus vs. Ike in the first match, and then Shiek vs. Wolf in the second match. Keep your opponent guessing!

Time: There's only a small window if difference in the time period from each of the two players, so the best thing to do would probably be to contact each other on theOtaku (I have links to both profiles on the main page) and set up a definite time.

And just to keep things running smooth, first match will be on Summit, second will be on Castle Siege. Contact me with any questions. Good luck to both of you!
