“Really? You’re inviting us?” I asked quietly.
“Well yeah, we’re learning how to control our powers.” Max said.
“I should just not use them, pretend like they don’t exist.”
“So I go hurt, everyone gets hurt.” He pointed out. I still couldn’t look at him.
“I, yeah…but still I’ve tried controlling it and it hasn’t worked.”
“You’ll get it. Controlling powers just takes time and practice.”
“No one’s ever been able to help me. Just saying. Not trying to be cold, it’s just the way it is.” I put my hands in my pockets. “Everything I do bites me in the end.”
“You’ll get it. Controlling powers just takes time and practice.” Max said. I rolled my eyes and looked away.
“Hey don’t knock it till you try it.” Alf said.
“He’s right.”
“Yeah, right.” I mocked lightly.
“I mean it. It could help.” Max continued. I thought for a minute, and nodded slowly.
“Don’t be embarrassed about saying they’re right!” Stella giggled.
“Shut up.” I muttered and blushed lightly.
“Thank you for telling her that.” Max said to Stella. I muttered under my breath.
“Little brat…I should cook you to a crisp…who says they’re right anyway?”
“Because practice doesn’t always make perfect but it sure does helps.” He smiled. I blushed deeper. Then I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned and looked at a boy with bleach blond hair. He was pretty cute…
“So…are you and the Stella girl, like, together?” He asked. ‘Gay. Boo. Figures. I bet Max is too, all the hot one’s always are.’
“Excuse me?” I asked. I mean I was with Stella, but I didn’t know if he meant…
“He’s asking if you and Stella are…um…dating.” Max piped up.
“Yes. Yes we are.” I said sarcastically.
“Oh that’s so cute!” The kid continued.
“No, like, we’re not! I’m straight!” I corrected.
“Well that’s always good.” Alf chimed in.
“Are you making a move on me buster?” I turned and looked at him.
“I’m bi so, I go both ways.” He answered. ‘Oh, so open…’
“Well that’s…interesting…I guess.” Max said. ‘Maybe he isn’t?’
“Well, I guess where ever you get your kicks from…you didn’t answer my question by the way.” I reminded Alf.
“No I’m not trying to hit on you. It’s very difficult though.” ‘Oh good grief.’
“So that was a move, meaning that’s a yes, to which I’m saying no to.” I moved a bit closer to Max.
“Well it was worth a shot.” He shrugged. “So what about you Stella?”
“Well, I don’t know!” Stella grinned. I slapped my forehead. “Straight I guess! No one’s asked me out before.” She continued.
“Did you want to go out with me sometime then? We would have a great time.”
“Oh like the mall? I like the mall, before I got all my abilities…” She held her head.
“What do you mean?” Alf asked. I had a bad feeling.
“Too many, emotions…” She fell. I went to jump, but Alf caught Stella fast.
“Are you alright?” He asked.
“Ella!” I rushed over. “She gets overwhelmed around lots of people. Lot’s of emotions at once and she can’t filter things.”
“Well that’s what practice can help with. She’ll probably be able to turn it on and off.” Max said.
“That’ll, be nice…” Stella said quietly.
“Almost there.” I told Stella, even though I had no idea if it was true. I fiddled with my hair nervously.
“It will be alright. Vlad was able to help Dante turn his powers on and off.” Max said.
