For those of you people who don't know. My mother, Kathy and I are going to be leaving for the Appalachian Trail (a 6 month hiking trail that spans from GA to ME, through 14 states and is about 2,270 miles long [the mileage changes based on your reference]) in about a day now. We'll be leaving for the air port EARLY in the morning on the 24th (a day before my birthday) to get a 6 o'clock flight to WV. To be picked up by our grandparents and later driven done to GA ready to start on March 1st. If I complete it in the time period set out, I'll be known as a Thru-hiker.
Back in 2009, my mother was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. In 2010 she had to go through treatment that included 2 surgeries, chemo AND radiation that lasted about 9 months. So we decided to make our 'little trek' into a fundraiser for the Breast Care Center at FAHC (Fletcher Allen Health Care). Our website is www.hollickshikeforbreastcare.org; on it you can find updates with pictures, where to donate (if one chooses too) and small sections about each of us.
Along the way we will be getting into town every 3-5 days, and I will be trying to find a computer to send updates to not only the site but also DA, theOtaku and possibly trailjournals.com as well. Look out for that. Which means: I won't be able to upload ANYTHING until I get back in late August (hoping we make it all the way).
I am by no means telling you this to ask for donations. I just want to get the word out. Besides, even one more person with a positive attitude with this, would mean so so much. It more like I'm asking for your support more than anything.
Wish me (and my mother) luck! Any help or support is greatly appreciated!
