Part 1, Chap 3
"You will each school here for the next year. My name is Warabe, I will-"
"I SHALL FEAST UPON YOUR SOFT, JUICY, RED FLESH!!!" Devin screamed, lunging and gnawing on his arm.
"I have no flesh," he replied, unfazed.
"THEN I SHALT KNAW UPON YOUR APPATIZING BLEACHED WHITE BONEZ!!!"
He ripped her off his arm by her collar and flung him in the general direction of the students. She jumped up and immediately tried to touch her nose with her tongue unsuccessfully.
"As I was saying before I was so RUDELY interrupted, is that you were each chosen due to budding possibilities. We understand that you must be shocked at this and you've been given today to get situated and everything can start tomorrow...yes?"
Melody lowered her hand, "Do we have a choice? I mean, what about our family, friends and," she flicked her hair,” many lovers?"
"You have the choice between staying here or leaving," Warabe replied, not sounding very nice.
"Well then, Thanks for your offer Mr. Skull-man but this doesn’t seem like a nice place, so I wanna go, Natalie? Daisy?"
He watched them all agree to leave, and then walked all the students around to the other side of the mansion, showing them a door.
"We just go through there to leave?"
"Yes, go in there and find the other door, go through that one and you're gone forever."
"Awesome, C'mon guys!"
Devin got a chill as they walked through the door and into the inky darkness.
"They're gone," Skelacat murmured, startling her.
"Of course they are."
"No...GONE. Not coming back...Never."
She watched the door, puzzled; overall it felt normal, but deeper she was shocked to find out it felt...almost alive. She put her ear up against it and after a moment she swore she could hear breathing...screaming.
"HEY!" She yelled at Warabe, "WHERE ARE THEY?"
"Gone," his hollow eyes blinked as though that was obvious.
"I know they're gone...and I should be happy, but what exactly is this? It's...breathing!"
He was shocked, nobody's figured that out without being told or being in it, "How do you know?"
"I could hear it!"
"What else did you hear?"
"Screams, thousands."
"Perhaps you’re just crazy, it's just a door," He turned and walked away, the groups followed obediently.
ööö
She stared at the huge white rat; its blank eyes stared back.
"I'm so sorry for that," she murmured, stroking its coarse fur, "I'm sorry she threw you, I'm sorry Warabe paralyzed you, but I'll help you, I'd always help you."
She took the pin out of its neck, it shook, inspected its limbs and its movement, and watched Skelacat cautiously.
"Well then, go ahead, run off," it didn't move, she sighed and held Skelacat. The rat ran off and disappeared from sight.
"What was that for?" Skelacat demanded, "I wouldn't hurt'em."
"Uh-huh, kinda like how you swore you wouldn’t stalk my grandparents parrot?" She flopped down on the bed, the sheets felt scratchy under her fingers. Not content, she flipped over and stared at the peeling ceiling. Before she knew it she could hear herself singing and felt Skelacat settle down on the bed to the left.
¯There’s a little creepy house
In a little creepy place.
Little creepy town
In a little creepy world.
Little creepy girl with
Her little creepy face,
Saying funny things that you've never heard.
Do you know what it's all about?
Are you brave enough to figure out?
Know that you could set your world on fire,
If you're strong enough to leave your doubts.
Feel it, breathe it, believe it and
You’ll be walking on air.
Go try, go fly so high and
You’ll be walking on air.
You feel this, unless you kill it -
Go on and you're forgiven.
I knew, that I could feel that -
I feel like I’m walking on air.
She has a little creepy cat
And little creepy bat.
Little rocking chair
And an old blue hat.
That little creepy girl - oh she loves to sing,
She has a little gift - an amazing thing.
With her little funny eyes of hazel,
With her little funny old blue hat.
She will go and set the world on fire -
No one ever thought she could do that.
Feel it, breathe it, believe it and
You’ll be walking on air.
Go try, go fly so high and
You’ll be walking on air.
You feel this, unless you kill it -
Go on and you're forgiven.
I knew, that I could feel that -
I feel like I’m walking on air.
Flitter up
And hover down.
Be all around,
Be all around.
You know that I love you.
Go on.
Feel it, breathe it, believe it and
You’ll be walking on air.
Go try, go fly so high and
You’ll be walking on air.
You feel this, unless you kill it -
Go on and you're forgiven.
I knew, that I could feel that -
I feel like I’m walking on air.
Feel it, breathe it, believe it and
You’ll be walking on air.
Go try, go fly so high and
You’ll be walking on air.
You feel this, unless you kill it -
Go on and you're forgiven.
I knew, that I could feel that -
I feel like I’m walking on air.
I’m walking on air.
I’m walking on air.¯
She heard a gentle whir and then the scratch of paper being slipped under the door, and looking over, she saw her hearing was correct. Reluctantly getting it, she noticed that the envelope was blank and sealed with wax. Pondering over it she sat at the desk and carefully opened it. It was full of papers, the first marked ‘School Rules’. She leaned back and read over the elegant script.
School Rules
1. No leaving school grounds.
2. No going into the large door around back.
3. No disobeying teachers, do what they say, exceptions may be made by Teacher Council ONLY.
4. Be on time to all classes and meals, no skipping, no tardiness, no exceptions.
5. Be prompt when called.
6. Be in rooms before midnight.
7. When more then 1 person is in a room then the door MUST be open.
8. Drink a cup of Jasmine tea each morning.
9. DO NOT MESS WITH THE HEADMASTER!
You will be called for all meals by three knocks on your door.
Pretty straightforward, shouldn’t be hard to break. She dug through the rest of the envelope’s papers, schedule, map, allergy information to be turned in by dinner, miscellaneous information and fill-outs like with any other school. Hmm, she thought, Instructions? For What? She pulled it out and skimmed it.
Instructions
Pg 1..………………………………............................................Meals.
Pg 2.……………………………..................Toiletries and Bathing.
Pg 3.…………………………….........................................Wardrobe.
Pg 4.……………………………....................Getting between levels.
Pg 5.……………………………................................School Supplies.
Pg 6.……………………………..................................Miscellaneous.
She laughed, who needs instructions on stairs, or wardrobe? She looked around saw two doors and got up to check clothing, is it uniform? If so she’d have to burn them. She opened the first one, it was the bathroom, standard toilet, sink, and shower set. The second one surprised her though, it was a room composed completely of mirrors, including the back of the door. Shocked, she went back to the packet, imagining it would be smirking. Maybe I do need help she thought, turning to page three.
Wardrobe
It’s fairly easy to get this working, as long as you can imagine it’ll work. Just go into the room after showering and state clearly what you need. If will appear on you, but you must be clear with your desire, else it wont work. It works best if you work in layers, from underwear, to clothing, to outerwear such as jackets and over-shirts.
Example (Male): (Whatever undergarments you prefer) Socks, Checkered white and black sneakers. Black, baggy pants, T-shirt with a picture of a Taco saying “Sacre Bleu!” Black and white checkered jacket.
Example (Female): (Undergarments you prefer including bra size). Black netting leggings. Size 7 Purple pumps with a 3 inch heel. Fitted purple T-shirt, loose white skirt falling just above the knees, white jacket.
Extra:
If the pants are too long or short then you can say “increase/decrease length by ___ inches”
If a shirt or something is too loose or too tight then target it by saying the name of the item and saying for it to be tighter or looser.
If you know what you want or have seen it before then you don’t need to describe it, just imagine your reflection in it.
No need to undress anymore, just walk in and create a new outfit.
She was impressed, hardly believing, and had to try it out. She walked in with her old black shirt and jeans and walked out in a pair of black pants, silk collared shirt, red and black striped sweater on top, and a hat with multiple piercing.
“That’s so cool!” Devin yelled, spinning to look over herself, “I want one of those! Hey, what’re you doing?”
“You dropped something,” Skelacat replied, nosing the papers on the floor, “They were probably on the top but they fell out,” she picked them up and brought them over to Devin at the bed.
“Thanks, hmmm…three small envelopes, and a page of instructions…Can’t Live Without spell. I can use this.” She skimmed the instructions a few times, “Fairly simple, what’s the mix?” She opened one envelope and sniffed it.
“Er…”
“What?”
“You shouldn’t sniff it, what if it’s poisonous?”
“It’s not, I don’t know of a spell like this that uses poison,” She sniffed it again, “Hmm…bay laurel, clove, ginger, frankincense, and…juniper! Makes sense, now the instructions should be fairly to easy to manipulate.”
“Oh no, what are you planning?!”
“I’m just gonna reverse the spell to send a message to my parents. Nothing dangerous, this one brings stuff here so I’ll do that first and then since I’ve only got three tries, send instead of receive. Okay…ipod! I’d love music…if only for a little while.”
She followed the instructions and the pile of the mix she poured out sank between the floorboards, smoking. When the smoke cleared her ipod and earphones were in the mix’s place.
“Awsome! I’ve gotta remember that one! Okay…time to try sending…” Devin strode over to the desk and searched through the drawers, not finding any paper or writing supply. Disgruntled, she read the entire “Instructions” packet. Then finally settled down to rewrite the spell.
Okay, she thought, easy would be to have the writing appear in front of them but that could damage the surface…and that surface could be skin. The easiest would be to send it to them as a thought or telepathic-like but there’s no way of knowing if they’d get it…or if they’d ignore it or not. Solid object would be the hardest but it’s the safest way and if it’s no longer here then it got there. She chuckled at the thought of her mother talking to a hotel owner or something and a letter appearing out of thin air before her. She would probably say something like, “Oh, it must be from Devin,” as the person trips over their chair to get away while making a cross out of their fingers.
“This won’t end well,” Skelacat muttered, curling up into a ball on the bed.
Devin shook her head and continued with the spell.
Finally finished, she turned to Skelacat, “Will you at least protect me?”
“From non-physical threats,” Skelacat lazily replied, getting up and entering the circle as Devin cast it. Devin put the sealed envelope in the center and drew a pentacle over it out of the herb mixture, starting out at the lower left point to help banish her parents fears for her. She pictured it in front of her mother, chanting the rewritten spell until it disappeared. The mix started to smoke and she looked over to Skelacat happily, about to say ‘and you said this would turn out bad’. Skelacat had that happy look she got every time she felt high off magic. She opened her mouth to talk but next thing she knew she was against the wall, sooty, and smelling charred.
She groaned and got up, feeling her bones creaking. Skelacat trotted up after closing the circle with a look that obviously said ‘I told you so’. Just then she heard screaming, “DEVIN! WHAT YOU EXPLODE THIS TIME???” The door slammed open and Jackie stood there, panting. Devin walked slowly over and shut the door, then opened it again.
“Wait for me to open the door. You wanna come in?”
“Sure…Devin”
“Yeah, your smoking…literally.”
“Yeah I know,” she replied, annoyed at the gathering crowd. She began to shut the door.
“Devin!” and a be-vanned foot stopped the door from closing, Jasper’s head followed, “Are you okay?”
“You better move before I shut the door repeatedly on your head,” She replied, glaring.
“Sure, but first, Are you okay?”
“Fine.”
He nodded and moved before she slammed the door. Devin growled and put her earphones in as she flopped onto the bed.
“So what happened?” Jackie asked, “You made me stop hugging Chad to check on you.”
“I sent a letter to my parents telling them not to worry, that I was fine, that I had a bad feeling about this place but would find a way to come home soon.
“Ah…you messed up?”
Devin forgot to check, she looked over but the letter was gone so she hadn’t failed, so she didn’t know what had happened. “Hey Skelacat, what happened?”
“Did you release any more energy then normal?”
“No, do you think it has to do with the air? It feels charged and my ipod would normally drop energy by now but it hasn’t. Maybe it magnified my energy and the charge keeps stuff like this charged?”
“It’s possible.”
“Hey! I just heard that! Was that Skelacat?” Jackie asked, excited.
“Um, yeah…Skelacat, what’s going on?”
“Her Guardian will be here soon, possibly tonight or tomorrow.”
“AWSOME!!!” Jackie shouted, jumping up and celebrating.
Skelacat shivered and Devin‘s vision swam, the air seemed to implode. “One just appeared,” Skelacat murmured, shutting her eyes, “A bat, Male, white…”
Jackie looked around franticly, “Well, where?!”
“Not yours, someone else’s, someone I haven’t been near much,” she replied in a voice that made it seem stupidly obvious.
“So what did you get?” Devin asked Jackie, changing the subject.
“You mean with the powder-stuff? I got my drawing supplies, ipod, and my wolfy plushie!” She smiled, “You?”
“I just brought my ipod, it’s cool that it’ll stay charged due to the air. Then I sent a letter to my parents by modifying the spell-”
They were interrupted by three knocks on the door.
