Short Story: Can't Sleep

ALRIGHT, I'm just gonna ramble here about stuff now.

AS YOU CAN SEE... I ended up not writing about gender like at all. Laf's basically a girl in this story. My original draft had a lot to do with gender, but I talked a lot to my sister who's a creative writing minor about the story, and she convinced me that it'd be too difficult to incorporate gender into the story given the length it had to be (less than 6 pages double spaced) when it could really be done without it.

While I was doing the revision of the first draft, I was for some reason really feeling like I needed to have gender in here and was just FREAKING OUT SO BAD because I couldn't figure out how to fit everything together coherently. But now that I took it out I'm really glad I did. -u-/ The story became a lot less confusing when it became about the dynamic between Laf and Dmitri, and not the dynamic between Laf and Dmitri and gender.
Maybe somewhere in the back of Laf's mind gender is relevant to this scene, but idk. Maybe he doesn't really start thinking about his gender and his gender in relation to Dmitri until around middle school... IDKDKDKDK

BUT UH, yeah. I'm kind of like going back and forth about actually liking this story, though. xD;;; IDK IF THE TONE IS RIGHT...??? IDK WHY I WROTE IN FIRST PERSON, I'M SO BAD AT FIRST PERSON... I have a bad habit of writing like I normally would instead of writing in ways that the narrator character would write... If I was to do more writing in first person, I'd be sure to ask myself important questions about the lead character and what they specifically observe and talk like (?) so I can make the tone more consistent and unique to that character. "orz

Although, this'll probably be the last written thing you'll see from me for a while. Idk how comfortable I feel with writing, I always feel a little disconnected from writing because I don't really enjoy reading. ;u;7 BUT, who knows. Maybe I'll do more short story stuff like this in the future. I feel like I learned a lot of good storytelling techniques from the class, so I'll try to make use of them in some way! >:Y

Anyway, that's all. Thanks again for reading!!
