See You Under the Fireworks

Two years ago when Stacey and I first got to Shizuoka we made a promise. We'd go to a certain fireworks display together every year. Inevitably, the only time we went was the one during which we made that promise. Last year she was in Thailand & I went with Sarah. This year the city doesn't have enough money or something so they're not doing it at all. Not that it would matter since she'll be gone from Japan before the time they usually do it.

Still, we were determined to see some fire in the sky so we made a few plans. Last year we went with a big group up on the nearby "mountains" for a local show and it was pretty nice. When the night rolled around this year though, a huge amount of mist rolled in with it. Mist that was down to the ground. On top of the mountains that is. We were walking in it, sitting in it, doing pretty much everything but seeing. Sarah assured us that the fireworks were on though and 30 minutes after the scheduled time they started. It turned out something like this.

There was a solar eclipse earlier that day. But these pictures have nothing to do with it.

Unless you believe in occult occurrences......

It was kinda what I imagine being in a war zone to be like. Noise and colored lights from all directions, but none that you can predict or pinpoint.

So that was strike one.

But we weren't disappointed yet. It was a unique experience after all. And the few fireworks we could see were definitely over-appreciated. There was another display by the river scheduled 3 days later and which everyone was planning to go to. We could still look forward to that. And then it was canceled due to the river being out of control and sweeping away the launch platforms. Never heard that one before. So we went out and ate Thai and took purikura with some idiots we know. I can't show you those pictures though because apparently theO has a 4 pictures only code limiting these posts. I seriously need a new blogging site.....
