I had been surprised when the girl – who I had by now realised was a Lynx, and had probably been infected by the virus too – had saved me. But what surprised me even more, was the fact that we were joined by a few others not moments later. I was glad to see that they were all like me, but I was still nervous all the same.
The first was a boy, as I caught his scent, I realised he was an eagle. The next a girl, a tiger. I made sure to stay as far away from her as I could. You’d have to be stupid not to realise she considered me prey. “Hi..” I looked over to see a... wolf? Running over to us. Had all of them been trapped in this laboratory too? I had thought I was the only one... not that I had been allowed out of my room.
Just as I went to answer, a bat landed next to us, smiling. “So you escaped too?” she grinned.
“Seems like we all did,” the lynx nodded. I yelped in surprise as I looked behind her, trying to find the source of a weird rattling. “Whoa, what’s that?” the lynx cried, jumping back.
As the thing ran closer, I realised what it was. “I-it’s a snake,” I told the others. “Mama would sometimes bring them for us to eat.” The snake continued to run towards us, slightly clumsily. I realised his mouth was covered, and his arms were bound.
“It looks like he’s running from something,” the eagle commented. His wonderings were answered when a group of doctors ran from the building behind the snake.
“I think it was that,” the bat added, watching.
“Maybe we should... RUN!” the lynx called out, already running and dragging me behind her as she was still clutching my hand.
The doctors look slightly relieved when they noticed our group. “Don’t let a single one of them get away!” the woman who seemed to be the leader told the rest. “Or you’ll all be looking for a new job.”
