Day Three- Who is your least favorite Kingdom Hearts character?
I hate this man. Seriously I do. Like most bad guys, Master Xehanort goes out of his way to get what he wants. There is something that makes him different though, he thinks his intentions are well founded. Unlike Ansem (Seeker of Darkness) he’s not just out there to destroy the world for the sake of destroying it and unlike Xemnas he’s not just out there to get into Kingdom Hearts to win back his heart. Those two literally couldn’t give a shit about anybody else and just do what they do because that is their nature, one is a Heartless and the other is a Nobody, it is what they do.
Master Xehanort is a human being, and that is what makes him so much worse. He’s out to forge the “x”-blade. He wants to start a new war. He destroys people’s lives to get what he wants because he assumes that the end result will be for the betterment of everyone. That is the worst type of villain.
Then add on to the fact of how effing manipulative he is. He plays with people’s emotions (mostly Terra’s) and sees right into their hearts and what is bothering them and uses that information to warp them. Imagine if he went about things a different way, he’d be an anti-hero. If he tried to recruit Terra by explaining his plan and why it was necessary, appealing to him rather than manipulating, he’d be a much more sympathetic character. So that he is manipulative and unapologetic about it makes him a raging jerkface.
I hate this man because he could have done so much more with his life. He’s human, he has potential to be such a good force in the world(s) and instead he chooses to go about his agenda in a way which was directly harmful to others. He is driven to the point where it has driven him mad. We’ve seen this in Ansem the Wise (another character I highly dislike) but Ansem the Wise comes off as sympathetic because he repents. Master Xehanort doesn’t repent, doesn’t feel sorry, and doesn’t apologize for his actions at all.
I hope when he comes back in KH3 Sora keyblades him to the face.
Day Two: Who is your favorite Kingdom Hearts character?
I wish I could say this was a hard choice for me. Really and truly I do. I love so many Kingdom Hearts characters, really I do. I love Sora and Kairi and Riku and Roxas and Xion and Naminé and Braig and Aqua and Vanitas. There is, however, one character throughout all time and space and fandom and cannon that I really consider to be my spirit animal. Axel.
Axel and I are eerily similar. There was a moment during my 358/2 days that I realized that we were even sitting in the exact same position. Creepy, folks. It was creepy. Axel is like one of those weird brain teasers where it looks like a square from one side but from a different angle it looks like an L-shape. Axel isn’t a static character and I love him for it.
With Roxas (and later Xion (and with Isa as Lea)) you see this really nice guy. He’s funny, he’s smart, he’s supportive; basically he’s everything you want in a best friend. Then you see him with somebody like Sora. He’s a liar, he’s manipulative and an asshole. He’s the best friend you could ever have and the worst enemy you could ever encounter. Axel is a tough little shit. He works tirelessly to protect his friends. Seriously, he couldn’t give two fucks about you, until you get in his way. He’s driven and can be so focused that he’s scary.
Axel is also one hell of a fighter. Seriously, he’s so effing badass you never get to fight him seriously. Can you imagine how different KH2 would’ve been if Axel had been with Roxas when he encountered Riku? Riku would be a smoking smudge on the streets of The World That Never Was. Oh, you’re running away? Chakram to the face. Oh, you think it’d be easier to fight him at close-range? Oh, another chakram to the face!
Axel and I are similar in our personalities. It was hard for me not to connect to him in KH2; I was in love with all of his snark and swagger right away. Then, lo and behold, here comes 358/2 Days and his interactions with Roxas and Xion only confirmed that Axel and I were one in the same. We love our friends, we’d do anything to protect them, we spout bullshit left and right, we are habitual liars and we use our sense of humor to cope.
I have a save on KH2 for his death scene. I cried while watching him die at 3 AM and high on caffeine. I love this man/nobody/kid. Every time I play that last fight with him I can’t help but think “maybe this time things will be different.” If he doesn’t make some appearance in KH3 I might go jump off a cliff. No seriously, I will. No seriously, I can write about Axel all day long. Don't tempt me 30 day challenge.
Day One: What is your favorite Kingdom Hearts game?
Kingdom Hearts 2 is the game that got me into Kingdom Hearts. I had played part of the first game (after renting it from Block Buster) and I didn't really like it. My friend, Logan, however was in love with Kingdom Hearts and was practically giving himself a hernia in anticipation over KHII. So I gave the series another chance. The rest is history.
A lot of what was wrong in KH was fixed in KHII. It is easier to play, it is prettier, the voice acting is still amazing. It is a great game. Now with, what, four more games that have come out after KHII all are based off the same system. It works.
Plus add to the fact that the game doubles our investment in Sora and company. We get to meet Roxas for the first time and we get to actually learn what Organization XII is up to. There are new bad guys, new worlds and new adventures. I actually liked Riku!
I'm sure when KHIII comes out I'll have to rethink which Kingdom Hearts game is my favorite but KHII will always hold a special place in my heart.
So normally y'all would've gotten a few Acen posts by now. Whelp, Acen is over! So instead of getting lists of what I still need to do or what I'm planning and all of that you get pictures of my... cosplay. I don't really know if it was a cosplay so much as "I made an awesome prop and a quick costume to show it off." Introducing: Wheatley! For those of you who don't know who Wheatley is he is from Portal 2. Here's a clip!
Wheatley was made from a large styrofoam ball that I paper-mached over. Then coat hangers were added and over the course of about... 9 hours he was painted. The whole thing took me about 4 or 5 days but that's with a lot of drying time for the paper-mache.
Personally I thought he turned out pretty nicely.
Lastly, a picture of Wheatley and I along with other Portal cosplayers at the Valve meet-up. I was simply dressed as a scientist from Aperture Science. I knew that people were much more interested in Wheatley than they were in me. Anyhoo that picture is of all of us singing "Still Alive."
So I'm not sure where I've been... busy I suppose? Let's see what's up with Waffles fandom wise...
Kingdom Hearts has kinda dwindled out. I by no means am done with Kingdom Hearts, not in the least. There's just no new games, and if there's new info out there I'm not reading it or seeing it. I suppose after years of pretty much spoiling stuff for myself I'm tired of it. During the summer I plan to finish Coded, as I never got around to it. Maybe I'll keep doing the live blog thing but, those are a lot of work and I don't feel like Coded has enough "umph" to it. You know?
I've dived into Batman fandom. I grew up watching the cartoon back in the day, so I'm fairly well educated on the Batmanverse but the DC universe is sooo mind boggling. I have a good grasp on Marvel but DC is something else ya'll. I'm focusing on the Batfamily and I'm gonna branch out from there. Right now my Amazon list if filled with Batfamily stuff, which is awesome but my goal this summer was to buy myself a nice TV not to waste all my moneyz on comics.
Doctor Who is back, so that is good! Not... much to say about that.
As far as anime goes I'm currently watching Naruto. I love the Naruto verse, I think it has a lot of potential. What I don't like is... well Naruto. But maybe he'll grow on my, like a parasite? Okay its been years and he still hasn't. I pretty much only watch when it's a Naruto light arc. And none of that filler crap. I'm also watching Deadman Wonderland, which... has the scariest opening theme ever. Also also watching Blue Exorcist, which is lovely. I love me some Rin, that guy is the best. I tried to find some shojo to break up my shonen heavy watching list but... nada. If you have something tell me! Something I can watch on Hulu or Crunchyroll or Neflix?
What else... Manga! I tried to get back into Reborn, figuring that it has been years since I've read it online so the English version must've caught up by now, right?! Nope. I probably have another year or two before Viz gets to the point where I stopped reading. I'm currently only buying two series. After School Charisma, 'cause clones = yay? And Ooku the Inner Chambers, 'cause alternative history = yay?
So there it is, an update! Huzzah! Also I have a Tumblr... if you're into that type of thing and like to be spammed by pictures...
