Devil May Cry Rant

Seems like just yesterday when I was drooling over the cover of my PSM magazine. The first thing I did was rush to my mom and say "Doesn't he look real!" She simply replied "He has silver hair..." That was when Devil May Cry 3 was being released.

Hence, my love for Devil May Cry began. Whilst I've never played it (was not allowed M rated games at the time) I've always been more then happy to check up on the series, awaiting the day I can take my leap into it.

I had my chance to this summer, an anime was released, and I happily watched the first episode online and promptly forgot about it.

A few days ago, I was about to buy my Shojo Beat when lo and behold! There's Dante staring at me. It went something a bit like this:

"Why hello there Waffles..."
"Dante! My goodness, what are you doing up there!"
"Come to me Waffles, feel my plasticy goodness."
"But...romance Dante! I need my romance!"
"Screw the romance women! I'm pretty."

Whilst I struggled against Magazine!Dante, some guy next to me was trying to buy porn. I felt sorry for him, because my internal struggle made him feel so uncomfortable he had to wait to get his playboy. Anyhoo, I ended up wasting my cash on Dante.

So, by the time I figured out it was out on DVD, I'd set my mind onto buying it. So worth wasting my gas money, but hey, its only $20! And there's only 13 episodes, so its not like I'm gonna waste a lot of money on it.

So why I'm I telling you to go out and waste your money on Devil May Cry? Its gritty and faithful adaptation of the game. Even if you haven't ever picked it up, you'll still find yourself loving it. For those who love Blood+, Devil May Cry is for. There's a lot of blood, but its not gory (which I can't stomach). The animation itself is pretty good, and I'm very strict when it comes to animation. The sound effects are well done, I actually cringe each time Dante fires off one of his guns. Justin Cause (aka Reuben Langdon) is superb. Fans of the game will recognize him, and it adds an extra something special to it. While I wasn't a big fan of the character design, Dante's new outfit isn't what I'm use to, it is forgivable (especially for those new to the series), you'll soon forget what you were complaining about in the first place.

The first DVD only has the first four episodes(missions). Already most of the main characters are introduced, and it doesn't hold back. There's no introductions. This is Dante, he kills things, enjoy. For those unfamiliar with the game, it might be a tiny bit confusing, but they eventually get around to explaining itself. Devil May Cry doesn't have a plot yet per say, though its still easy to get sucked into it.

For what its worth, I say, rent it. I wouldn't want to miss out on the experience, and if its not the thing for you, you can always return it. However, for fans of the game, you'll want to pick it up. It expands on the games world, and if you don't have a PS3 or Xbox 360, you'll get your DMC fix.

(Seriously, why do I have a thing for guys with silver hair, beginning to worry about myself, talking magazines aside.)
