1978 saw the arrival or Rumiko Takahashi's Urusei Yatsura manga, in 1981 the first tv series aired to high acclaim followed up by OVAs and movies, it started a renaissance for Rumiko Takahashi which was followed by success with Maison Ikkoku, Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha leading up to the 2010s.
Lum with her animal print bikini, oni horns and green hair is easily the most recognisable anime heroine in history, even non fans have seen her appearance at least once, as she's also the most frequently plagiarized as well.
Now in 2022, Urusei Yatsura has been remade and with it a new voice cast and new chaos, early reviews are solid, Lum ready to reclaim her title as best waifu from a number of young pretenders.
