Today was the same as any other day. I got up, brushed my teeth and ate breakfast with the rest of the children at Wammy's. I then had some semi-independent study time until lunch, which I ate in my room as while doing some reading. But then, after lunch, was when the normal days routine had been broken.
Everyone was gathered into the leisure room with out being told why. We all waited for an explanation. I used that time to get in some extra leisure reading. Then Watari came in through the big double doors in the front.
"Ladies and gentlemen," he began, face already wrinkled into a pleasant smile, "Allow me to introduce the newest member of the house, Mail Jeevas."
this was exciting. New kids were some what of a rarity here. I looked up from my book and tried to get a good look at the boy, but the only thing I saw was a head of brownish-red hair before he was engulfed in a sea of excited children.
There was no getting past the mob. I marked my place in my book and proceeded back to my room. I would have plenty of time to meet the new kid later, it's not like he was going anywhere any time soon.
The rest of my day carried on normally. After lunch I was given free time until dinner. I was expected to, and usually did, use the time to study, but I wasn't quite in the mood to study on this particular afternoon. Instead I roamed around, taking in all the familiar sights sounds and smells of Wammy's house. I was greeted around every corner by children, young and old, that I knew very well. I got roped into numerous games and discussions. It was the social interaction I didn't dislike, but didn't need all the same.
When the time for dinner drew close I made my way back to my room to wash up. As I approached the door I noticed a short brunet blocking my path, about to open the door to my room. "Can I help you?" I asked. He let out a small, frightened squeak and whipped around to face me. It was the new kid.
"I-Isn't this my room?" he asked. I gave him a curious look before realizing that he must be in the room next to me. I shook my head and pointed a bit further down the hall.
"Missed by one."
