What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.

They may be killers, but they're not exactly "shrews" as we head on out with The Killer Shrews. On a remote tropical island, a Swedish guy named Milo Craig, his daughter, and a sneaky guy conduct counterproductive experiments on shrews. As a hurricane approaches, they get some extra company, and then must figure out what to do about the large, poisonous, and rather shaggy shrews that have escaped from the lab.
The short that precedes the film is yet another example of how terrifying it was to be a child in the '50s. Old-timer Billy Slater forces preteens to wrangle up a junior rodeo and enjoys the carnage that comes from it. Fun!
Host Segment Highlights
Present-giving time! It's hard giving the right gifts, as Crow finds out, and not even the invention exchange can soothe his bitterness. The crew then does a routine involving Will Rogers, a cow, and a cactus before moving on to the Killer Shrew Board Game, which goes nowhere fast. The game having bombed, the 'bots instead make up the Killer Shrew drink, which will make your intestines squirm before finally turning on their creator as - what else - killer shrews.
Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.
