About the Anime Club
The Anime Club is a weekly room in theOtaku's community chat where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. Rather than watching mainstream shows, however, we pick out good, yet lesser-known anime as an opportunity for people to enjoy new shows. Streaming links are usually provided for those without a copy of the anime.
Current Anime
The Vision of Escaflowne is a 26 episode fantasy/adventure with some mecha thrown in for good measure. It tells the story of Kanzaki Hitomi (Sakamoto Maaya), a high school girl with a talent for fortune telling who gets transported to Gaea, a world of magic currently at war. She gets caught in the struggle against the invading Zaibach empire when she meets Van Fanel (Seki Tomokazu), the young king of Fanelia.

Kanon (2006) is a 24 episode comedy/drama about Aizawa Yuuichi (Sugita Tomokazu), a boy in high school who, due to family circumstances, goes to live with his aunt, Minase Akiko, and cousin, Minase Nayuki (Kouda Mariko). It's been seven years since he visited and his memories of the city have since faded, but upon meeting Tsukimiya Ayu (Horie Yui) and other girls from his past, they slowly begin to return. The lighthearted comedy while Yuuichi teases the girls will make you laugh and the heartbreaking drama of traumatic events from both past and present will make you cry as the story unfolds.

Future Anime Voting
It's time to vote for the next anime replacing Kanon. There's a lot of great nominations so pick one carefully from the list below and post its title in the comments.
Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight!
Genshiken
Gunbuster
Kannagi: Crazy Shrine Maidens
Le Chevalier D'Eon
Nishi no Yoki Majo (Good Witch of the West)
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Note that Utena is 39 episodes long and we'd watch three episodes of it per meeting. Only vote for it if you have time for that.
FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood retells the story of the original FMA series, staying closer to the original manga storyline this time around. Despite this, it still follows the same basic plot: Edward and Alphonse Elric try to revive their dead mother through alchemy, and pay dearly for it- Edward loses his right arm and left leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body. Edward manages to attach Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor, and then has his limbs replaced with automail limbs. They then set out on a journey for the fabled Philosopher's Stone to return their bodies back to their original state...but they aren't the only ones searching for it....
Oh yes, this is still going. I found a site that still streams FMA(actually, Shishou showed me another site- so thanks, Shishou 8D). If a link is needed, then let me know and I'll give it to you.
When: Jun 4, 2009
Episode:9: Created Feelings: Ed and Al find themselves hospitalized after the Lab 5 incident. And at the same time, Scar is recovering from his injuries. Al also struggles with the fact that his memories could, in fact, just be something that Edward created...

Edit- FUNi has continued ther FMA streaming. I'll keep the other site handy, though.
Edit number 2- Okay, never mind, FMA has been leaked as well. -_- So I'll be relying on this site for awhile I guess.
What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.
Next Episode
What have you always wanted to watch? A movie that involves mummies and stuff, right? Then you're in luck (surprisingly), with Being from Another Planet! Doug, a professor at the California Institute of Sciences, unearths a mummy in King Tut's tomb and takes it back to Californialand for study. Pete, one of his students, decides it'd be a good idea to zap the mummy with some radiation, and to also swipe some crystals from a secret draw in the sarcophagus. ...Oh snap - that's not a mummy (sorry), it's an alien, and those crystals are his radio! Cue the killing spree!
Host Segment Highlights
It's twenty questions! Just what is the movie being guess? I dunno, do you? Well, Joel tries to defend the acting career of surnamesake Billy Mumy (who portrayed Will Robinson on "Lost In Space"), but Tom and Crow aren't having any of it. Later, they lead the human through the haunted boiler room of the high school, but Joel exacts revenge - errr, brings rainy day fun - with a super special awesome fun fest of fun. In the end, all play and no work makes Jack a dull boy, so the crew decides to set up TVFSN, a shopping network dedicated to stuff only TV's Frank likes.
Come join us! We don't bite, promise. Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.
The password for the room is: lostinspace. Get a head start on loading and find the video here.

Future Anime Nominations
I know we just did this, but there's only three weeks of Kanon left so we need to pick out another anime. If there's one you'd like to nominate, post its title in the comments here or in the OtakuBoards thread. You can choose anything so long as it's anime and its content is around the PG-13 rating level or lower. Each person can nominate one show and then next week everyone will get to vote on which of them to watch next.
