Date and Time?
Sunday April 19th @ 10:00pm Central (the chat will open at 9:45).

Higashi no Eden chat?
Nehsz gave me the idea of making a chat for this series. Every week we will watch the latest episode of Higashi no Eden (I will explain more about it in the next paragraph). If you need a new anime series to watch, then join us on Sunday night.

What is Higashi no Eden?
Higashi no Eden, also known as Eden of the East, is the newest Production IG series. It's directed by Kamiyama Kenji (Ghost in the Shell: SAC) and the character design is by Umino Chika (Honey and Clover). The story (I'm trying not to spoil most of the first episode) is basically about a young man who is challenging the nature of his country, and a young woman who watches over him in a period of eleven days. The whole series is 11 episodes. I thought it would be neat to watch an episode a week. It's a good series, and anyone who comes will most likely enjoy it.

Pierce The Fandom With Our Chat #6

Pierce the Fandom with Our Chat...?
Originally proposed by Kei a while back and respectfully shanghai-ed by Nehs and Sangome, the idea is basically to turn on the Sci-Fi Channel once a week and spam it up in Chat while watching the English dub of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. We also try to get streams and whatnot for those not within the channel's range.

What is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann?
A twenty-seven episode anime, TTGL is Gainax's way of taking giant-fighting-robot anime and stuffing it with so much awesome, one can barely take it. The English dub originally aired last year, but due to immense popularity has earned a rerun stint in the former Gundam 00 timeslot. Fan-spazzing on theOtaku.com can be found over at Team Dai Gurren.

Episodes
Eleven and twelve; with Nia in tow, the Dai Gurren Brigade get to answer both the call of helpless babes and the call of the sandy beach. Bring plenty of tissue to wipe up your nosebleeds.

So, feel like joining in? The chat room will open at 10.30 EST. The password is itsatrap.

Movie Sign #36 - Untamed Youth

External Image

What is Movie Sign?
Every week, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. We use episodes available on Google Video so that we can all watch simultaneously.

What's MST3K?
It's a comedy show about a man and his robots, stranded in space and forced to watch some of the worst movies ever made as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, talk back to the films and riff on them. You can read up on the show over at the SoL.

Next Episode
To the distant past of the first season we go with Untamed Youth. Sisters Jane and Penny Lowe are arrested for swimming in their underwear and are sentenced to thirty days on a cotton farm, run by the whiter-than-white Tropp who gets his laborers from some squicky relations with the old lady judge. Despite all the hard labor, the youths find time to strip and dance until somebody gets killed. In the end, Shinmaru a mysterious Mexican shows up and leads to Tropp's demise.

A few things are different about the first season from the rest of the series - noticeably a different Servo and a different sidekick scientist (played by the same guy, surprise!) and a way different set. There's also a more relaxed feel to the riffing, so rather than observing, feel free to throw yourself into the front row with Joel, Crow, and Servo.

Host Segment Highlights
Crow's a bit disturbed at the finding of a magnetic tapeworm in Servo, but it's not as disturbing as the invention from the mads...Later, we enter Biography (!) mode with a presentation on Greg Brady, but when that gets boring, we delve into the mind of Gypsy to see what she's really all about. Soon it's a game to see what things Gypsy can regurgitate at the orders of the 'bots, and it's all capped off by a hat party.

You know the date, so why not give it a go? Join us on Sunday and see what all the fuss is about! Movie starts at 8PM EST, room opens at 7:30.

About the Anime Club
The Anime Club is a weekly room in theOtaku's community chat where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. Rather than watching mainstream shows, however, we pick out good, yet lesser-known anime as an opportunity for people to enjoy new shows. Streaming links are usually provided for those without a copy of the anime.

We've got a great bonus this week! To promote the Kanon box set being released on April 28, one person who watches Kanon and chats with us in Anime Club will be chosen at random to receive a free Kanon DVD from FUNimation. (We're not sure if this means a single volume or the entire box set. It'll be a surprise!) Thanks to Adam for arranging this.

Current Anime
Ichigo Mashimaro (aka Strawberry Marshmallow) is a comedy/slice of life with 17 episodes (12 ep. TV series, 3 ep. OVA, 2 ep. encore OVA) about sixth-grader Itou Chika (Chiba Saeko), her three friends Matsuoka Miu (Orikasa Fumiko), Sakuragi Matsuri (Kawasumi Ayako) and Ana Coppola (Noto Mamiko), and her big sister Itou Nobue (Nabatame Hitomi). It follows the day-to-day lives of the girls as they play, fight, argue, and work together, often with cute and hilarious results. There's no real story to speak of but the girls' overflowing adorableness will keep you smiling and the show's mix of conversational and slapstick humor will keep you laughing the whole way through.
Click to watch the opening and prologue.

Kanon (2006) is a 24 episode comedy/drama about Aizawa Yuuichi (Sugita Tomokazu), a boy in high school who, due to family circumstances, goes to live with his aunt, Minase Akiko, and cousin, Minase Nayuki (Kouda Mariko). It's been seven years since he visited and his memories of the city have since faded, but upon meeting Tsukimiya Ayu (Horie Yui) and other girls from his past, they slowly begin to return. The lighthearted comedy while Yuuichi teases the girls will make you laugh and the heartbreaking drama of traumatic events from both past and present will make you cry as the story unfolds.

FMA: Brotherhood chat

The FullMetal Alchemist Brotherhood chat went well last week, so it shall continue :D

For those unfamiliar with FMA, or with the new series:

FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood retells the story of the original FMA series, staying closer to the original manga storyline this time around. Despite this, it still follows the same basic plot: Edward and Alphonse Elric try to revive their dead mother through alchemy, and pay dearly for it- Edward loses his right arm and left leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body. Edward manages to attach Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor, and then has his limbs replaced with automail limbs. They then set out on a journey for the fabled Philosopher's Stone to return their bodies back to their original state...but they aren't the only ones searching for it....

When: April 16, opens at 9:30 pm EST (starts at 10:00 pm)
Episode: 2
Password: automail

Due to Funimation's streaming taking forever to load, it is recommended that you have it loaded and ready before coming into chat, which is also why the chat OPENS at 9:30. If you still experience difficulties, then an alternative link will be provided. No downloading necessary.
