Check Your Ponds for Daleks

From the world of oddball news...

Volunteers cleaning rubbish from a pond near Beaulieu, Hampshire, UK got the shock of their lives when, as if from out of a script from Doctor Who itself, a Dalek bobbed to the surface.

Pond warden Tony Brown, 70, said: "We made a very thorough search of the rest of the bottom of the pond and there were definitely no alien remnants lurking. We've all agreed it best to keep the pond's exact location under wraps. The last thing we want are sci-fi fans descending on the pond frantically searching for other Dalek parts."

Movie Sign #30 - Gamera

External Image

March comes in like a lion, and out like a lamb...in the second week of March Movie Sign Madness, though, it appears to have changed into a turtle.

What is Movie Sign?
Every week, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. We use episodes available on Google Video so that we can all watch simultaneously.

What's MST3K?
It's a comedy show about a man and his robots, stranded in space and forced to watch some of the worst movies ever made as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, talk back to the films and riff on them. You can read up on the show over at the SoL.

Next Episode
It's our first giant monster movie from Japan when we watch Gamera, the story of a giant atomic turtle (think Godzilla) found in the arctic after an atomic blast sets him free. Gamera wastes no time in causing a rampage of destruction, first destroying a Japanese research station before going for the island nation itself. The army's got a plan to get rid of the beast, but can it work? (Hint: Many sequels to this movie suggest otherwise.)

Host Segment Highlights
After J&TB get all warmed up, Servo shows his talent for singing by serenading his pet turtle Tibby with the heartwarming ballad, "Tibby, Oh Tibby". Later, Crow and Tom put the hate on the movie before the 'bots shift into what could only be called "fangirl mode" while Gamera visits on the Hexfield.

"More fish flakes, sweet friend?"

You know the date, so why not give it a go? Join us on Sunday and see what all the fuss is about! Movie starts at 8PM EST, room opens at 7:30.

The password for the room is: tibby. Get a head start on loading time and find the episode here.

MARCH MOVIE SIGN MADNESS continues with:

3/15 - Episode 905 - The Deadly Bees
3/22 - Episode 416 - Fire Maidens From Outer Space
3/29 - Episode 609 - The Skydivers (w/short "Why Study Industrial Arts?")
