What is the Watercooler?

It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.

All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.

Late news from Down Under.

James, our mate and Chief Admin at OtakuBoards, has made a few posts about the ugly brush fires that ravaged his continent recently. Tonight I stumbled across something just absolutely neat that came out of it a few weeks back. I don't know if any of you already know about it, but I want to share it anyway. It's a little bright spot in the bleakness.

Yor: Hunter From the Future (A Review)

If Creating Rem Lezar wasn't enough to curdle your brains, allow me to present this review of Yor: Hunter From the Future. The movie stars Reb Brown of Space Mutiny fame as the title hero, a barbarian that... well... I'm not exactly sure what Yor does in this movie. I'm not sure the people who made it had any idea either.

Greatest fantasy epic of all time, or really bad, cliche pastiche from the depths of the '80s? You decide.

"Yor's World! He's the man!"

About the Anime Club
The Anime Club is a weekly room in theOtaku's community chat where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. Rather than watching mainstream shows, however, we pick out good, yet lesser-known anime as an opportunity for people to enjoy new shows. Streaming links are usually provided for those without a copy of the anime.

Current Anime
Lovely Complex is a 24 episode romantic comedy that follows the unlikely relationship of Koizumi Risa (voiced by Okamura Akemi), a very tall girl, and Ootani Atsushi (voiced by Nagata Akira), a very short boy, as they work their way through high school. It's one of the best series in its genre that I've seen, with top-notch humor, some touching moments, and plenty of unexpected twists.

Kurenai is a 12 episode drama/comedy series with some action sprinkled in here and there. It's about Kurenai Shinkurou (voiced by Sawashiro Miruki), a 16-year-old mediator whose job is to settle disputes between the client and other parties – even if it means getting violent – and his latest assignment of guarding Kuhouin Murasaki (voiced by Yuuki Aoi), the 7-year-old runaway daughter of the powerful Kuhouin family. While there's many different themes running through the series, it mostly deals with Shinkurou struggling to take care of Murasaki while the little princess also struggles to adapt to life outside the Kuhouin estate.

I'm a pretty Princess

Hey,

So I am now the official theOtaku 2009 Princess.

Yes, I know, it's amazing. I AM pretty after all...

Main thing I'm wondering, did anyone that was at the chat last night happen to save it? I only got about half of it...and it makes me sad.

Creating Rem Lezar

Since TC's hooked me up with posting privileges, I thought I'd kick things off with a doozy:

This movie is the choicest product of the '80s art. Two antisocial, misunderstood children share an "imaginary friend" named Rem Lezar, a big burly 30-something pseudohero with a blue mullet and a cape. Rem appears in their rooms at night and encourages them to follow their dreams in several scenes which are not at all creepy or wrong. After Rem comes to life and... uh... spends the night with them in an abandoned shack, they tour all over New York looking for a medallion borrowed from Miguel de Cervantes.

Also featuring countless irritating songs recorded before the days of autotune and an evil floating head. Sponsored by at least two institutes of Freudian psychoanalysis, so you know it's gotta be suggestiveariffic. Enjoy!
