It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
We have had three awesome Fan Challenges thus far, each with a different theme hosted by a different Watercooler member. January still has one more day to go (in the time zone I'm currently in, at least), but since I will be without internet for about two days, I wanted to post this before the month changes.
If you’ve been to an anime con, chances are this was an event, as it is very popular. One anime bachelor or bachelorette has to pick from three mystery dates of the oppisite gender (or the same one, on some occasions, to the chargrin of the character).
You have until the end of Feb to complete this challenge.
RULES:
1. The bachelor or bachelorette who is reading the questions can be introduced. We’ll all know who s/he is. However, the three people they are picking from have to be a secret. They can be any fictional character from any series. This is a bit harder than the Letter challenge from last month, because you are dealing with the interaction of four characters, only one of whom the audience is told who s/he is.
For example, Inuyasha might be picking between three mystery bachelorettes who are Tohru from Fruits Basket, Rosette from Chrno Crusade, and Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh! (Actually, if someone were to do that, it might be kind of epic.)
2. The questions that the bachelor/ette reads are from the list below. Other than this, ad-libbing is perfectly acceptable, and you may include other questions. But you must include the following five:
A) If you had to choose between an expensive date or a date that cost no money, which would you prefer?
B) If you were a song, which one would you be?
C) What do you have to share?
D) Finish this poem: Roses are red, violets are blue…
E) If you were a flavor of Pocky, which would you be?
A question can be asked of all the bachelors/ettes or just a single one.
I will have my own example up shortly.
Good luck!
EDIT: You can choose to have a "reveal" of the bachelor/ettes at the end or just the one that ends up being chosen. Your call.
Sunday night with nothing to do? Join us in the theater (chat room) for some of the worst stinkburgers in the history of cinema. Whether it's sword and sorcery, science fiction, action, or something that we can't quite understand, we've got the remedy: lots of bad movies and plenty of laughs in Movie Sign.
What is Movie Sign?
Every week, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. We use episodes available on YouTube so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
It's a comedy show about a man and his robots, stranded in space and forced to watch some of the worst movies ever made as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, talk back to the films and riff on them. You can read up on the show over at the SoL.
Next Episode
It's good old fashioned quest time when we view Episode 703 - Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell. Infamous outlaw (and cocky jerk) Deathstalker must save his friend Nicias the wizard from the clutches of the evil (and bald) Troxartes, who desires a trio of stones that will give him access to the magical lost city of Arandor.
Basically this film is a tried-and-true rip off of the D&D and Lord of the Rings formulas, with plenty of hamfisted acting and thoroughly unlikable characters. The villain Troxartes is particularly ridiculous, as Crow remarks, "It's hard to look menacing when you're dressed like Maude."
Host Segment Highlights
The Bots hold their own Renaissance Festival; Mike wants more Ren Fest, but the Bots aren't feelin' it anymore; Crow reads a trashy romance novel to a heavily medicated Pearl Forrester.
Check out this compilation of funny moments from the episode, unless you'd rather not spoil the surprise:
You know the date, so why not give it a go? Join us on Sunday and see what all the fuss is about! Movie starts at 8PM EST, room opens at 7:30.

FEBRUARY MOVIE SCHEDULE continues with:
2/8: Episode 310 - Fugitive Alien
2/15: Episode 524 - 12 To the Moon (w/short "Design for Dreaming")
2/22: Episode 512 - Mitchell
Meet your fellow otaku and enjoy some anime at the weekly Anime Club in the Community Chat.
What's the Anime Club?
The Anime Club is a weekly room in theOtaku's community chat where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. The anime will most likely be available on streaming sites since we're mainly going to stick to unlicensed shows. I hope the Anime Club will be a good opportunity for people to find new series and genres that they enjoy and for series to gather support for if/when they're licensed.
What are you watching?
We're currently watching episodes from two shows each week, Lovely Complex first and then Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. I hope people will stick around for both but, if one of the series just isn't your thing, feel free to only drop in for the other.
Lovely Complex is a 24 episode romantic comedy that follows the unlikely relationship of Koizumi Risa (voiced by Okamura Akemi), a very tall girl, and Ootani Atsushi (voiced by Nagata Akira), a very short boy, as they work their way through high school. It's one of the best series in its genre that I've seen, with top-notch humor, some touching moments, and plenty of unexpected twists.
Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is the 13 episode sequel to Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, which we watched back in October 2008. It's even crazier than the first season, featuring all sorts of weird, twisted, and morbid humor. Click here to watch its opening.
When are the next episodes?
We'll be watching Lovely Complex ep9-10 / Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei ep10-11 on Saturday, January 31, at 10:00 PM Eastern Time (7:00 PM Pacific). The chat room will open a half hour early, around 9:30 PM Eastern, and the episodes will last about an hour and forty minutes altogether. We hope to see you there!
The password for the chat room will be: innerbreasts
Shoot; should've posted about this earlier. Well, in what seems to be a series of events, the guys of Rifftrax - Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett - are hosting another live-streaming of one of their shorts. This time, the title is "Overcoming Fear, which you can all imagine what that's about.
The show starts tomorrow (Wednesday) night at 9pm EST/6pm PST and will be viewed here. In the meantime, drop a comment about your fear and, if it's any good, the guys'll read it!
