It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
Olive stirring? Crack pairings? Packers won the Super Bowl?! It must be Movie Sign!
What's Movie Sign?
Every week, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. We use episodes available on YouTube so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
It's a comedy show about a man and his robots, stranded in space and forced to watch some of the worst movies ever made as part of a mad scientist's bid on world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, talk back to the films and riff on them.
Next Episode
It's shades of Alien in the 1950's when we watch Episode 701 - Night of the Blood Beast. An astronaut returns to Earth dead, and those who recover him soon face their worst nightmare as an alien menace goes on a rampage to protect it's embryos, implanted in the astronaut's body.
This is also the special Turkey Day edition of Episode 701, with Thanksgiving-related host segments.
The episode also includes a short, Once Upon a Honeymoon, in which a man trying to write a new advertising jingle receives divine assistance.
Host Segment Highlights
The Bots give a scientific dissertation on the Potatoes vs. Stuffing controversy; Pearl has a heart-to-heart with "Art" (Crow); everyone chows down on Thanksgiving dinner.
You know the date, so why not give it a go? Join us on Sunday and see what all the fuss is about! Movie starts at 8PM EST, room opens at 7:30.
Meet your fellow otaku and enjoy some anime at the weekly Anime Club meetings in the Community Chat.
What's the Anime Club?
The Anime Club is a weekly chat room in theOtaku's community chat where we meet to have fun laughing, crying, heckling, and spazzing together while watching a few episodes of anime. The anime will most likely be available on streaming sites since we're mainly going to stick to unlicensed shows. I hope the Anime Club will be a good opportunity for people to find new series and genres that they enjoy, and for series to gather support for if/when they're licensed.
What are you watching?
We're trying a new format where we'll watch episodes from two different shows each night. I hope people will stick around for both, but if one of the series just isn't your thing, feel free to only drop in for the other.
The first show is Library War, a 12 episode action/comedy series. I haven't seen this one yet, so I'm not sure what exactly it's like, but people tell me it's great. Click here to watch its opening.
The second show is Spice and Wolf, a 13 episode fantasy/drama series. It's somewhat slow-paced and doesn't have much action, instead focusing on the characters' interweaving relationships and ways of getting by in life. Click here to watch its opening.
When are the next episodes?
We will be watching Library War ep1-2 / Spice and Wolf ep1-2 on Saturday, November 22, at 10:00 PM Eastern Time (7:00 PM Pacific). The chat room will open a half hour early, around 9:30 PM Eastern, and the episodes will last about an hour and forty minutes altogether. We hope to see you there!
The password for the chat room will be: sunshinepie
So... I don't usually post personal stuff on here, but this was way too funny not to.
I'm albino, but my eyebrows and hair on the top of my head grow in a disgusting shade of mousy brown, usually, while the rest of the hair on my body grows out white.
And I'm also Ashkenazi, which is the ethnicity of being eastern-European Jewish (Jews were not allowed to marry non-Jews for centuries, becoming their own ethnicity with certain traits). One of these traits is having really bushy eyebrows.
So I went and trim my eyebrows last night, because I'm a woman and don't want to look like a caterpillar is crawling across my brow. Except, that, the lower half of my eyebrow hair is now white. Even though I didn't pluck out anything, it looks like I now have no eyebrows. I had to steal my roommate's mascara to dye them dark brown. I may have to dye them permanently, or cross my fingers that they regrow back as brown. I wouldn't mind having white eyebrows if my hair was white too, but it isn't. And it looks really weird.
It's pretty ridiculous. I'll post a photo later, if I can.
EDIT: Started regrowing in brown. The universe has righted itself. 42.
So, I've had about nine or ten cats that have stayed around for longer than two or three years since I can remember having cats at all, and something I love about them is how different they all sound. My little Maine Coon chirrups at me (it's actually a species trait called a trilled miaow, which is cool); our Old Man opens his mouth and no sound comes out, unless he really has to pee or is trapped in a room by himself; and we had a half-Siamese baritone who would sometimes call through the house until he found someone to cuddle on.
The sister of the Maine Coon I mentioned just now had a son who got pretty huge for an eight-month-old, and this guy (whom I named Wallace because it was close to Willis, which was his brother's name and a Different Strokes reference) would actually speak in sentences to you. His pitch would rise and fall, and you could always tell when he was asking a question, informing you of something (like an empty food bowl or that his toy was stuck under the couch again), or grumbling. I've held intelligent conversations with him a few times.
What? I'm serious. I even picked at him once, and he turned away and muttered under his breath.
I found a cat that reminded me of him. Little chatterbug, this guy. Have fun.
