Batman has a song for you

No, not that Justice League clip where he sings the blues, this one is better.

Movie Sign Rewind #12 - Manos: The Hands of Fate

What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.

What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.

Buh? Rewind?
A clever way for us to combat death, a "Rewind" session means we've watched the episode before and wanted to watch it again...so we are.

Next Episode
Ah yes, the reported "worst movie ever made"...and because we have this sort of masochistic thing going on, we of course have to watch it again! A pleasant family is on vacation, but they get lost and wind up at a mysterious inn. There, they meet Torgo, who takes care of the place "while the Master is away". So who is the Master, and why is Torgo as creepy as he is? Also, why is this movie getting a sequel?

But first, a short: The sequel to "Hired! Part 1" that can be seen in episode 423, however, it stands alone just fine. Learn work ethic and how to be a salesman the way only Chevrolet can teach you.

Host Segment Highlights
If the 'bots not being snarky leaves you feeling hollow, then prepare for the rest of it, since this movie sucks the soul out of the whole cast - and even induces the Mads to apologize. How on Earth are Joel and crew going to pull through this one?

Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.

The password for the room is torgo. We've got at least one thing working to advantage, with the whole video for watching!

Rewind keeps on going because it ain't at the start of the tape yet with...
1/16 - Episode 1001 - Soultaker
1/23 - Episode 811 - Parts: The Clonus Horror
1/30 - Episode 821 - Time Chasers

Sorry, you're not allowed to use that word

There's nothing I like more than when internet phrases (that aren't abominations of grammar) transcend that boundary and get dumped into real life...and when people get really uptight about them.

Lake Superior State University is a small college in Michigan that puts together a list of "banished words" every year. This year, they've put the red-mark down on "viral", with runners-up being "epic" and "fail", two words we're used to seeing together.

I honestly get a kick out of these things, if just because people put their time and effort into making these lists. Also, I love this sentence, because being short and concise is apparently WAY out of fashion: "This linguistic disease of a term must be quarantined," Kuahmel Allah of Los Angeles said in making a nomination.

Time again for the one cowboy movie we've watched! Duke, a would-be stagecoach robber with a heart of gold, ends up working for the delightfully crusty Remedy. Duke is then enlisted to help the wild horse herds that have been raided by rancher Charlie Cooper, mediating an arrangement between Cooper and the other ranchers. But when Cooper is murdered and Duke is framed, our dashing hero goes on the lam, still trying to get to the bottom of the murder rap.
