It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
Anyone here going to Otakon? If you are, come find me (I am hosting the Shodo/Calligraphy Workshop on Friday evening and Sunday late morning). I will be dressed as school-uniform Naoto from Persona 4 and a bartending-uniform Rukia from BLEACH. I'm 5'3" (5'5" in the heels I'll be wearing) and wearing glasses.
Tell me you're from TheO and I'll have candy for you. I am also a professional photographer, so if you are in costume I'll take your photo for you and send you the digital copies (full resolution) for free on Tuesday next week when I get home from the con.
In memory of popular Filipino comedian Redford White, who recently passed away this Sunday, I present to you a funny scene from one of his movies in the '90s. He is the one in the left, alongside Babalu, also a deceased Filipino comedian.
(EDIT: The video has English subtitles. Please inform me if you can't see the subtitles.)
I offer my condolences to his family and friends. I pray that his soul will now rest in peace.
What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.
Next Episode
This Russian film is a total fairytale trip-out overdose. Cinderella Nastenka is a domestic slave to her nasty stepmother and nightmarish stepsister. Ivan is an egotistical and narcissistic man-child. The two meet, and thanks to the interference of the impish Father Mushroom, all hell breaks loose. Strange transformations, dimwitted bandits, witches... And Jack Frost with his ICE GUN!
Host Segment Highlights
Michael Nelson IS Lord of the Dance! (No, the other one didn't die). In Soviet Russia, Yakov MSTs you! Bobo and Brain Guy attempt to be civil to each other in Pearl's absence (oh, and Crow's a bear. Yeah.) Crow finds an expert on Russian culture named... Earl Torgeson? And Servo is vewwy dawling and adowwable.
