What is the Watercooler?

It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.

All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.

What is it?

Remember the good old days of cartoons? The kind you used to wake up early for on Saturday mornings with the biggest bowl of cereal your parents would let you have and your favorite action figure? Well, the Super Nostalgia Power Hour was created to celebrate those heydays of animation, because they were awesome, and dammit, we want them back.

When is it?

Every Friday starting at 9:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

THIS WEEK

Pokémon Season 1: The Road to Indigo

Ash Ketchum is a 10-year-old boy from Pallet Town whose only dream is to become a Pokémon Master. Follow along, as he, Pikachu, Brock and Misty travel through Kanto on their quest to learn about the mysterious world of Pokémon and try to catch ‘em all.

In Episode 39, Pikachu’s Goodbye, Ash and Co. come across a young wild Pikachu in trouble, but Ash’s Pikachu manages to save the tyke and becomes a hero among the baby Pikachu’s tribe. Ash’s Pikachu starts to bond with the group, which makes Ash wonder if it’s better that he let his longtime partner stay behind. Is this the end of a dream team?

Then, in Episode 45, The Song of Jigglypuff, Ash and the gang comes upon Neon Town, a relative city that never sleeps. But more importantly, they come across a wild Jigglypuff with a big problem: it can’t sing! The group helps the puffy Pokemon regain its voice, but it may actually produce more haunting melodies than anything…

Also, learn more about the world around you as we watch “Yakko Sings All the Countries of the World.”

Pokemon Gaming Family Tree

Check this out to see the Pokemon game relations in all their children poisoning glory. It's a really quite cool diagram depicting the descendants and remakes of every Pokemon game released (in North America?).

Also, thanks to this, I now know that Pokemon Puzzle League has a descendant on the DS. This knowledge could be detrimental to my health. Anyone else still see the coloured blocks from Puzzle League when they close their eyes?

Movie Sign #78 - Daddy-O

External Image

What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.

What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.

Next Episode
Crazy mixed-up middle-aged teenagers Daddy-O and Sandra Giles risk their lives drag-racing, but their friend Sonny actually loses his when knocked off the word. Daddy-O is the main suspect but still allowed to investigate the crime, going so far as to penetrate the gang he suspects and...uh...sing some songs. Can he get to the real murderer, or is are his musical days over for good?

Before that, we've got ourselves a short. Animals are abused, children tortured and humiliated, foreign countries are insulted - and it's all in the name of education.

Host Segment Highlights
Joel, Crow, and Servo are huddled around the watercooler (us?), joking around and oogling their female coworkers, but they get down to business with the "Pants-Up Song", a tribute to the fashion of the movie. Then they take a break for some danger as they reenact the drag racing scene and demonstrate proper spittakes before being interrupted by a collision and a visitor. Finally, Joel proves he can't be abusive before reading some letters.

Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.

The password for the room is pants. Be ready to go and find the whole video here.

Movie Sign stays on ahead with...
3/21 - Episode 805 - The Thing That Couldn't Die
3/28 - Episode 418 - Attack of the the Eye Creatures (Still not a typo)
