It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
Believe it or not - though really, you should - there is such a thing called National Doodle Day. It is March 5th, and it's actually a charity fundraiser in Britain in order to raise money to help people affected by epilepsy and neurofibromatosis.
While we obviously don't have the resources to do the good deed that the British Epilepsy Association does, I thought it would nonetheless be fun and interesting to see what we, the people of theOtaku, doodle up. To celebrate the day, do the obvious - doodle something! Submit it anytime during Friday, March 5th with the tag "doodle day" and let's see what we can make.
Don't consider yourself an artist? Aww - this is all in the name of fun! No worries or shame here. Not anime? Nothing wrong with that either! I do, however, strongly encourage you to stay away from digital submissions. C'mon guys - it's doodling, the activity you do during class when you'd rather not learn about poets or theorms.
What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.

What makes better movies than a Japanese TV show packaged as a movie? ...Well, a lot fo things, but here we go again! Last year we watched the first installment of Fugitive Alien, and this year's go is pretty much the same thing. Ken, an alien who finds himself stranded and with the group Star Force, goes off with the crew to, well, do things. Adventure and antagonists and space and explosions. It probably made better sense as a TV serial.
Host Segment Highlights
Crow and Servo discuss the nature of puppets and their conflicting theories on what qualifies before weird inventions of body parts are exchanged. Then - oh noes! Tragedy! Rescue 911, Servo needs help NOW! And don't you just want this season's hottest toy, the Captain Joe action figure? He drinks, he brawls, he yells things! Then take a seat and relax as the crew does their own musical tribute to the movie.
Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.
The password for the room is forklift. Be ready to go and find the playlist here.
