It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.

The Ten Doctors - A Tribute

With the rest of the world, Doctor Who enters a new decade. As we prepare for the Eleventh Doctor, let's look back through the show's history at the first ten actors to play this brilliant character. This is a music video montage taken from an episode of Doctor Who Confidential

Movie Sign #68 - War of the Colossal Beast

What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, Twe nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.

What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.

Next Episode
Back in November, we watched the Amazing Colossal Man, and now here we are, watching it's sequel, War of the Colossal Beast! So it turns out Glen Manning survived the attack at Hoover Damn, but part of his face was blasted off and he's sort of converted into the mentality of a groaning beast. But since all big things need to die, the army is on it and ready to take him down.

But before that, we've got ourselves a short, and probably the most memorable of the whole series. Mr. B Natural, the gender-ambiguous spirit of music, is out to get young kids imbued with the thrill and excitement of being in band and playing an instrument. And let's just say it's as creepy as it sounds...and more.

Host Segment Highlights
Feeling a bit hungry? Joel and the 'bots have you covered with their Mexfood combos and the breakfast bazooka - you know, for those of us on the go. After the short, Tom and Crow argue over whether or not Mr. B Natural really deserves the title of mister, and then we've got a surprise revisit from Glen! And do you want your future read? Well, maybe you do, but I'm not sure if Joel is going at it the right way...

Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.

The password for the room is happyking. Be ready to go and find the playlist here.

Movie Sign continues on in 2010 with...
1/10 - Episode 610 - The Violent Years (w/short "Young Man's Fancy")
1/17 - Episode 208 - The Lost Continent
1/24 - Episode 519 - Outlaw
1/31 - Episode 414 - Tormented

The Last Day of the Decade of Anime

Hello everyone!

Well, it's December 31. It's not only the last day of the year 2009, but it's also the last day of the 2000s decade. This decade was fun, wasn't it? After all, it was in this decade that most, if not all, of us learned to see the joy in the anime and manga world. With all the anime and manga that we enjoyed in the past 10 years, we can definitely say it was one heck of a ride.

As we begin to bade farewell to the decade that saw the rise of the anime and manga fandom around the world, here's what some theOtaku members have considered as their top 10 anime in the 2000s decade:

1. Ink.black.sky - A Look Back
2. Mimmi - Ten Favorite Anime of the Decade
3. Miss Anonymous - A Decade of My Anime
4. Sangome - A Decade of Anime: 'Gome Edition
5. Shimaru - Ten Favorite Anime of the Decade
6. The Mask - A Look Back at a Decade of Anime
7. TimeChaser - A Decade of Anime - My Picks

Now as we end the decade of the Noughties, here's a video to commemorate the end of the decade. It's anime characters, mostly from 2000s anime, singing to the tune of the song "We Are The World" by USA for Africa. It may be an '80 song, but since this decade also saw the death of Michael Jackson, this video can serve as a tribute for the decade in general. (And trust me, this music video is definitely worth watching.)

Happy new year everyone! And may you enjoy the Two-tens, or the 2010s decade.
