It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
In a few days, not only would we be saying goodbye to the year 2009, but we would also be saying goodbye to the decade of the 2000s. And as we all know, this decade was filled with tons (and tons) of anime shows. This video below should serve to show us how much anime was produced in this era (WARNING: Do not look too close to the screen. Rapid transition of pictures may cause discomfort to the eyes.):
Of course, out of the many shows that appeared in the past 10 years, you probably have some anime series that you actually loved.
And thus, I have a question for all of you: What were the 10 best anime series for you in this decade? It may be "the best" from an objective or personally subjective point of view; it's your call.
Write your answers in your own world and post the link in the comments section below. Do this on or before December 30, 2009. After that date, all the links will be compiled together in one post on December 31, 2009 to mark the end of the Noughtie decade in the world of anime.
'Till then, let's have some fun and take a trip down 10 years of anime memories.
What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.
Rewind?
It means we've watched it before, but, due to popularity, we're watching them again! ...And that's all.
Next Episode
Ever wanted to see Santa Claus versus Satan? Well, guess what - you can! In this Mexican Christmas film, Santa keeps watch over the children of Earth (specifically, Mexico) while the Devil sends out his minion, Pitch, in order to turn them all evil. By doing so, apparently this will...kill...Santa...? Who knows. But with the most adorable MST movie character to exist, how bad can it be?
Host Segment Highlights
It's Christmas up on the Satellite! Let's kick it off with some singi - oh well, that ended in a bit of disaster. After some awkward gifts are exchanged, the crew rocks out with "Whispering Chirstmas Warrior". Then the 'bots, knowing Mike misses home, gives him his surprise - the family Nelson! And in a celebration of the times we live in, M&TB give us the politically correct song, "Merry Christmas, If That's Okay".
Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.
The password for the room is snowday. Be ready to go and find the whole video here.
