It's a haven in the middle of a harsh, 9-to-5 world. A place where you can gather with your fellow human beings and bond over a paper cup full of cool refreshment.
All sorts of randomness is welcome here. Post pictures, videos, special Chat information, or just discuss news and current events.
Acquired via a nifty Tumblr blog that I don't really want to link to directly on account that I saw boobies in one post and that would upset people. But that's neither here nor there, rather, I've an image to share!
Well, I'm sure if we compared 12th century art, we'd get a similar joke in the other direction. But no one blogged that one yet.
What is Movie Sign?
Every Sunday night, we nestle down in Chat and watch an episode of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short) while spamming up the Chat box. Don't worry - we use episodes available on streaming sites so that we can all watch simultaneously.
What's MST3K?
A comedy show that ran from 1988-1999, it's like watching a movie with running commentary. Joel Robinson or Mike Nelson, along with 'bots Tom Servo and Crow, are forced to watch terrible films as part of a mad scientist's bid for world domination. To keep their (and our) sanity, they talk back to the movies and riff on them. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.
Buh? Rewind?
A clever way for us to combat death, a "Rewind" session means we've watched the episode before and wanted to watch it again...so we are.
Next Episode Guess who gets to copy-paste from last year...!
It's kinda like Alien, but in the 1950s and called Night of the Bloodbeast instead. An astronaut returns to Earth dead, and those who recover him soon face their worst nightmare as an alien menace goes on a rampage to protect it's embryos, implanted in the astronaut's body.
This is also the special Turkey Day edition of Episode 701, with Thanksgiving-related host segments.
Before the movie, we've got a short, in which a man trying to write a jingle gets some divine assistance, which leads to his wife singing about what she'd like her home to be like.
Host Segment Highlights
It's Thanksgiving time! Did you catch the game? And if you didn't, did you at least bring pie? A party is thrown down in Deep 13 while the rest of us have to watch a movie, but there's still time to argue whether one should eat stuffing or potatoes. With some quiet time, "Art" and Pearl have a chat before both depart to eat dinner and give thanks.
Whether a seasoned vet or new meat, we invite you all to come on down! Movie starts at 8pm EST/5pm PST, room opens at the :30 beforehand.
The password for the room is steve. Be ready to go and find the video here!
December continues Rewinding with...
12/5 - Episode 903 - Puma Man
12/12 - Episode 613 - The Sinister Urge (w/short "Keeping Clean and Neat")
12/19 - Episode 910 - The Final Sacrifice
12/26 - Episode 321 - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
I share something of which I was reminded after the hilarity in the podcast comments.
If you haven't heard it yet, the late (and great) George Carlin once explained the most obvious reasoning to not wanting to wreck the planet with our industrial death smokes and the like. It's far simpler than "is our pollution causing the death of the world?" Far, far simpler . . .
Language warning. It's George Carlin. You know this.
I'd miss the whales, though . . . also, hilarious sidenote: according to Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, British Petrol is totally in line with the Templars. Explains a lot.
