Wow, three years of...what?
Movie Sign began as the first sit-and-watch Chat event three years ago, and since then, it has had its ups and downs. Now we're entering the final year of watching all 176 nationally-broadcast episodes of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K for short). So far, we've gotten through 138 of them.
If you've never been, then this is how it works: You get the episode, you join the Chat room, and then we sit around and joke about the movie, the riffs, the sketches, and each other. It's a breezy way to kill two hours of a Sunday night.
Wait, you lost me at MST3K.
Ever watched a movie and made your own commentary to it? That's what this show is all about. MST3K is a comedy show from the '90s in which a guy and two robots are forced to watch terrible movies because a mad scientist wants to take over the world. To keep their sanity, they talk back and riff on the movies. A more detailed explanation can be found up at the SoL.
This Week's Fodder
In the Universal classic This Island Earth, hunky nuclear physicist Cal is contacted by a strange man named Exeter. Arriving at a conference of other leading atomic scientists, Cal soon discovers that their hosts are not quite human (no duh! big forehead alert!). Cal and token woman Ruth are whisked off on a visit to the planet it Metaluna, one they'll be lucky to ever return from.
MST3K: The Movie is the show's theatrical release and runs a bit shorter than the average episode. If you've ever been curious as to what the heck this show is all about, this is the perfect time to check it out.
Note! This week's feature must be downloaded in order to watch! You can get it here.
