Check out this full interview with Doctor Who and Sherlock showrunner Steven Moffat, recorded for fans at the 2013 Gallifrey One convention.
The Grand Moff talks about plans for this anniversary year, confirms that there will be a Christmas Special, and reveals that he was originally nervous about bringing back the Ice Warriors.
The next installment of BBC America's The Doctors Revisited specials is set to air February 24 at 8 PM EST.
This month's special will look back at the Second Doctor, played by Patrick Troughton. His time was crucial to the survival of the series following the departure of William Hartnell. Would the British people accept the concept of regeneration and a completely different man playing the beloved enigmatic time traveler?
As with January's special, following the documentary portion, BBC America will air a classic adventure, in this case the 1967 story "The Tomb of the Cybermen". The only completely missing story to be recovered in its entirety, the adventure sees the Doctor and companions Jamie and Victoria arrive on the planet Telos where an archaeological expedition from Earth is hunting for the last remains of the Cybermen. But when they find the silver giants' underground city, will they disturb things best left buried?
It has been announced that another classic Doctor Who monster is set to return to our screens this year: the Ice Warriors, the reptilian men from Mars.
While the Ice Warriors have featured several times in books and audio over the last twenty years since the classic series ended, their last TV appearance was in 1974 in the Third Doctor serial "The Monster of Peladon".
This season they are set to appear in the third episode, set on a submarine and penned by Mark Gatiss.
Recently, their second story "The Seeds of Death" was re-released on DVD in a Special Edition, and their eponymous first story will finally be released on DVD later this year.
As part of the 50th Anniversary festivities this year, November will see the premier of a 90-minute special titled An Adventure in Space and Time. Penned by Doctor Who scribe and Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss, the docu-drama will tell the story of the series' creation and the people involved.
Among the recently-announced cast is David Bradley, who will portray William Hartnell, the first actor to play the iconic Time Lord. Bradley is familiar to film audiences as Filch in the Harry Potter series, and his previous Doctor Who credits include Solomon in last year's "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" and the voice of the Shansheeth in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode "Death of the Doctor".
