I've finally gotten around to making new wallpapers that I've wanted to do for a pretty long time~
The C-gear skins for Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur~
So in case you don't know what C-gear is/was, when pokemon black and white was released, in game at some point you'd be given a "c-gear" which was basically the game's version of the poke-gear. It had several lil' apps you can get for it, everything from telling the time to telling you if there was an egg at the day care center or how many steps you've taken. The C-gear itself was used for linking your game online to get online rewards from the website, but could apparently also be used to chat with people like a webcam.
Anyway, this C-gear thing was customizable. You could download special skins to it and use them during special events and promotional periods. Three really nice ones where never released outside of Japan. It was the starters and it always bothered me we never got them, even after pokemon black 2 and white 2 came out and they re-released the skins a second time around.
The process of which I made the wallpapers wasn't just simply making the original C-gear images larger. If you've never tried upscaling pixel art before, it ends up either being very blurry or very pixelated, and I wanted something far more smooth looking. What I ended up doing was pretty much went over the original work with lots and lots of careful digital brush work.
There's probably some errors here and there that I missed, or there might be a few things that don't look exact. I did kind of spend a few late nights doing them, and there's a few places that where hard to really tell. Venusaur I actually had to find the original sized version to reference from many times simply because it wasn't looking right and I needed the original perspective to figure things out. Blastoise was pretty easy, but I feel like of the three he's maybe the least polished. I may go back over and resmooth things a bit more later.
