Story #1
The sun was falling down in a big red ball of fire, like licking flames, consuming the sky and everything in its path. I saw it set knowing that soon I would see the demons from the dark land come out to kill us. So I just sat there poised, arrow in bow, ready for the onslaught to start. For them to try and devour us all, like how a dog devours its raw and bloody steak. To flood the land with are red and newly spilt running blood. Just like this blood red sun that is shining for its last time today, trying to leave its mark on this now growing dark earth that we live on. Soon even that little last light of hope was gone, and the world descended into a black abyss, and off to my right came the faint hum of wings as the demons rose to take the night. As the sound came closer I used the darkness as a cloak shielding all my movements so I could get a good aim at the creatures’. Then out of nowhere the noise of the flying demons was on top of me. I let go of the arrow and with a barely auditable twang and then an unearthly ear splintering scream I knew that I had hit my mark. I heard a loud thud in front of me and nearly screamed. The demon had a bee’s head and stinger, but it also had a man’s body. I got out another arrow and aimed for any demons flying above me, I let go not realizing that if I hit something it would fall on top of me. Another ear splitting scream and two seconds later I heard the short whistling of a large object falling out of the sky, earth’s gravity pulling it down on top of me, red blood falling down onto me. I realized my mistake, but I was not fast enough to escape the falling body of the demon. It hit me with full force, knocking me out instantly. I fought against the blackness but to no avail. The last thing that I remember was the soft hum of wings flying toward my town as darkness fell onto me in a deep sleep.
I woke up to the brilliant white light of the sun shining in my face. I felt a great weight on top of me and I opened my eyes, red blood pouring down into them. I screamed, the body of a half pig half dog and various other parts was laying on top me, its blood seeping into my clothes and sticking to my skin. In some parts it’s already crusted on me. It was pinning me to the ground with its weight and with near inhuman strength I pushed it off of me. I took many deep slow breaths, trying to calm myself down, to get a grip on my nerves. Once I calmed down I took a look around me I was in the upper valley above my town, with two dead and still bleeding demon bodies surrounding me with my arrows pierced into their flesh where their hearts should be. I bent down next to the closest demon lying on the ground and pulled my arrow out of its chest. It jumped up with a force, screamed once and was silent forever more. I looked down at my arrow, studying it, looking for any cracks or breaks in its wood. It was fine only a little bent. I went over to the other demon and tried to pull out the arrow but it was stuck there, destined to lay emboweled in its chest for all eternity. I sighed, got up and walked to my village.
It took me five minutes to reach the rise that slopped down into a low flat valley. The top was scattered sharp rocks. About halfway down it descended into strewn trees where anyone could be spotted by centuries on the look out for any invasion. And then it all leveled out into a small basin of trees and grass, and in the middle of it laid my little town. I peered down into the town trying to see if there was any life present. As I looked down I saw small human shapes moving about, as if cleaning up any damage from a fierce battle that took place earlier that dark morning before the sun decided to show its face to the world again. It could be humans or it could be demons transformed into their half human shapes. I sighed, fear starting to creep up through my veins as if it were a poison. And in a weird way it was, paralyzing my thoughts, muscles, and movements. I pushed the fear down, knowing that if I did not it would over run me and I would go mad with disease. I needed to know if it was humans or demons down in my home. I sighed once more and started down the rise. Down a not so well know path, but one that would mask my movements from any looking up here. I placed each footstep carefully and surely, making sure that I did not dislodge any rocks that would fall down and give off my position to any below. It was a relief when I reached the edge of sparse trees’, I knew how mask myself better here, and so I made the rest of the way down without any trouble. When I reached the outer gates I stopped, fear starting to creep up again. It took me longer this time to push it down but I finally did it, and I continued to the brink of the open gates. I peaked my head past the rim of the gates and whipped it back just as fast, my head giving off a small crack from the force of the whip. I had seen what it was down there. Demons. I can not go into any more detail other than that they were gross and covered in human blood and gore. The ground about the feet of demons’ was littered with human intestines and blood. I then felt the guilt and sadness and rage come at me all at once, consuming my body, my heart, and my soul. I wanted to kill all the demons in there. Rip them apart till nothing but microscopic pieces of dirt. I stood there till I regained control. I then turned off into the now fading light, never to be seen by felloe humans ever again. But always there protecting those humans who need me from the harm of the demons. I was picking off the enemy one by one till I died and my body returned to earth that it had first come from.
I hope that you all who have this short story of mine enjoyed it. I will be making many more for those who want to read any more.
