I grinned sheepishly at Ryle as the angsty boy stalked away. "Well...he sure seems thankful."
Ryle just smiled a little and headed toward the house. I started to follow him, but he stopped and said, "Actually, Caelia, would you care to fetch my shepherding supplies? I left them by the cliff. I would get them myself, but I should see to the guest...."
I didn't hesitate. This guy saved my life two times after all...Plus that sweet voice was way too convincing. I turned and headed happily after the baas and bleats in the distance.
"Hellooo," I hummed as I neared the herd. The sheep slowly looked up at me with huge black eyes, while the goats' strange rectangular pupils stared into my circular ones. Freaky.
Taking Ryle's bag, I swung it over my shoulder and started to head back when an ominous scattering sounded from below. Curious, I peeked over top the cliff face to see what it was.
A boy swathed in gray, earthy tunics was scrambling down the side of the cliff with obvious difficulty. Every move he made sent pebbles pattering down the rock wall, while his footing crunched the rocks beneath him.
Suddenly a swarm of bats exploded from a crack in the cliff, and the boy let out a high pitched scream. The bats continued to flutter around him, crashing into him as they fled. I couldn't even see him through the mass of black.
And just then, as the bats flew away, there wasn't a boy anymore.
Long raven hair flowed around her face, flustered by the sudden attack. Instead of the earthy toned cloak, forest green and emerald dress robes clothed her. She was obviously Inifer.
"My necklace!" she whispered, frantically searching the cracks around her.
I frowned and slid down the slope towards her. She whirled around as scittering pebbles bounced past her, followed by myself. As she turned to flee, my daggers flashed through my hands and collided with the stone, catching her dress.
"What are you doing on Devaneir territory?" I queried.
She blinked and replied, "I could ask you the same thing."
I glanced down at my loose sandy clothes and incredibly tan skin. I laughed and joked, "So you're a spy too?"
"No! I swear! I was just sent to get some supplies- and- Please, don't tell anyone!" she panicked.
I smiled. "I'm just kidding, I believe you." She seemed to relax greatly at this. But she bristled again as she took my dagger from her dress.
"Do you know how much time it took me to sew this?!" she puffed. For a second I thought she was gonna throw my dagger at me-
"Whoa!" She threw it.
I threw out a hand to deflect it, painfully making contact. It clattered down the mountain as I rubbed my hand. "Ow."
"Gah! I'm so sorry!!" the girl looked horrified. "I lost my temper-"
"You should be. That was a good dagger!"
She looked at me with a mix between horror and insanity, but composed herself as she begged, "Please, forgive me, I'll do anything."

Yanille awoke to the sight of a cluttered, dust filled room. He inhaled deeply, filling himself with the scent of crisp mountain air. Yanille raised himself onto his elbows so that he could examine himself. His torso was wrapped in a layer of linen that was white and sterile, except for the places where his blood had seeped through.
Gritting his teeth, Yanille pushed himself into a sitting position as gingerly as he could. His caution was wasted as he felt his wound reopening, and the flow of blood begin again. A sudden noise from outside the room brought Yanille back into the present, as he listened in on the happenings of the small cottage.
Yanille could hear the pitter patter of small feet on the floor and in the distance the baaing of sheep and goats. Concentrating, Yanille focused on a conversation between a boy and a girl not much younger than him. Listening even more, Yanille realized that he was the subject of their conversation.
Slipping on his shredded tunic, Yanille climbed out of the one window in his small room. The shock from landing, even from only a few feet up, sent a lance of pain up his side. Yanille stood and proceeded in the direction of the conversation he had heard.
As he crested the top of a small hill, he caught sight of two people. Yanille walked over at a leisurely pace. The two noticed him when Yanille was within a few feet of them.
"So you've finally decided to grace us with your presence, have you?" The young man questioned. Yanille ignored the boys first comment and asked, "What happened to the bear?"
The two of them exchanged a glance. "Ryle killed it whi--" "YOU WHAT!?" Yanille screamed. "We...killed it?" The girl mumbled, obviously confused. "Do you know how much time I spent tracking that damned bear!?" Yanille continued, taking a few steps towards the young girl. "Do you have any idea how much time it'll take to find another one!?"
"I..uh..We...um.." The young girl stuttered, as Yanille stepped even closer. "Leave Caelia alone." Ryle interrupted, stepping between Caelia and Yanille.
Yanille stood there, eyes locked with Ryle, trying to control his rage. Just when it seemed that he was about to attack Ryle, Yanille stormed off back the way he had come mumbling curses under his breath the whole way.

Ok...suckish? Yes. But you still owe me a PB&J Rachel.
Thwump.
"What was that?" Ryle and I turned our heads toward the faint sound. "Oh my-!!"
A boy like Ryle lay sprawled out on the rocky ground, limbs slightly akimbo as if he toppled over. The rocks around him were stained crimson with the blood pouring out of his ribs.
Ryle rushed forward, and I ran after him in shock. Falling to his knees on the craggy surface, Ryle ripped the sleeve of his shirt and wrapped it around the gash. "Caelia, find some poultice, quick!"
"Uhh- Polltis, right..." I panicked. What the heck is that?
"Never mind. We have to get him help-" Ryle hoisted the body over his shoulder. "Help me, please..."
I quickly took an arm and dragged the boy with all my strength. My heart quickened as I felt his blood slowly seeping into my side. "Where are we going?!"
"My house. It's right up this cliff." he tilted his head up the steep pebbly climb ahead.
"How convenient!" I laughed as my death grip on him slipped a bit.
"GRRRROOOOAWWR!"
I screamed as a rabbid bear burst through the scattered trees, scoring his claws furiously across the bark. He definitely wasn't happy.
"Caelia, I'll take care of it! Just get him to the house!" The heavy weight on my shoulder suddenly crashed on me as Ryle spun around and drew his sword. I cursed under my breath and dragged the mysterious dying boy up the cliff.
I risked a look back in time to see my new friend's sword graze the monster's neck. This only made it angrier as it swiped dangerously close to Ryle.
My feet slipped on the loose pebbles and I fell to the ground with a CRACK! Damn!! Blood trickled down my mouth as I got back up and heaved him with all the strength over my shoulder. I was nearly there....
"Caelia!!" Ryle screamed. I had to drop the boy in time to dodge a gigantic bloody paw.
"Sorry," I said under my breath as the unconscious boy fell hard on the stone. The bear roared as it smelled the blood on my shirt, and reared on it's legs. Oh crap.
And then a sword sprouted magnificently through his heart, blood shining as it scattered over me. "Ugggh!!"
"Sorry! Trying to save lives here!" Ryle smiled guiltily as he drew his sword from the dead bear.
Together, we dragged the unconscious body up the last of the cliff. I saw the house right away, a small house, but it would have to do.
"If you survive this, I'm gonna kill you," I laughed to the boy, whether he heard me or not.
Amara took a deep breath as she pulled the bowstring back. "I'm sorry..." she said sadly as she released the arrow and watched it impale her target-- A small deer. She winced as she watched the blood drip out of the wound while the poor creature fall over. Why did the elders have to put her on hunting duty for the day? They knew she hated killing living creatures. In fact, she wouldn’t even touch animal meat during meals! Yet somehow, here she was in the overly green forest known as Inifer.
Sighing, she stepped forward to claim her prize…
And tripped over a vine. Oh no…
Green tendrils shot out and quickly began to wrap around her leg. Another appeared and began to move towards the pendant hanging around Amara’s neck. Oh no you don’t! Amara frantically reached for the silver knife attached to her leather belt. Once in her grasp she quickly sliced through monstrous vine and leapt to her feet. She didn’t dare to look back as she ran along the path the led to her village.
Precariously dodging other vines, she eventually reached the Lorvale village clearing. Amara stopped running and bent over to catch her breath. Guess there won’t be food for anyone tonight. She sighed and looked up to see her little sister running towards her.
“Any luck, sis?”
Amara shook her head miserably. “I killed a deer, but I was attacked by a vine monster and had to leave it behind. Sorry, Luci.”
The sparkle in Luci’s eyes faded as smiled slightly. “It’s alright. I don’t even care for deer meat that much.”
But the sad truth was that the village needed food. There had been a shortage ever since Lorvale was attacked by one of the desert villages a few months ago. Since then, the villagers were required to go hunting almost every day. The game in the forest was scarce though, due to the roaming monsters.
After a long pause, Luci said, “Oh! By the way… The Elders want to see you in their hut.”
Amara raised an eyebrow. “What do they want to see me for?’
The younger sister shrugged as she began to skip away. “Not sure! Guess you should go find out.”
Sighing, Amara combed through her long raven hair with her fingers and brushed the dirt off of her dress as she walked through the village. She nodded and smiled at some of the villagers, but didn’t pay much attention to their replies. It was strange. The elders never called upon anyone unless they were in trouble or being sent on a journey. Surely Amara couldn’t--
She halted in front of the large wooden and grass hut that belonged to the Lorvale Elder Council. Taking a deep breath, she moved the plank of wood that acted as a doorway and stepped inside.
There were four elders. Two women, and two men. Each of them had white hair spotted with black. They had wrinkled skin and wore earth-colored robes with golden trim which signified their authority.
Curtsying to the small group of people in front of her, Amara gathered up her courage and asked, “You summoned me?”
One of the men elders nodded and smiled through squinty eyes. “Indeed we have.”
An awkward pause.
“Um… What for?”
One of the women sighed. “Oh don’t mind him. He thinks adding suspense is entertaining.” She stood up and faced Amara. “The council has chosen you to go on a trading expedition to Veyon.”
“But… That’s in the Devaneir Mountains! We’re at war. I can’t just go walking into enemy territory!” Amara exclaimed.
The other man stood. “We are well aware of this. That is why you will be disguised. You can use magic, correct?”
Amara frowned. “Yes, but…”
“You leave in the morning.”
