The Wednesday Word: Sanguinary

sanguinary. adjective. bloody; bloodthirsty; murderous.

sanguinary is pretty straight-forward. Sometimes you want to call something "bloody", but you want something that just sounds extra badass. Or maybe just kind of old-fashioned? In any case, pretty much all words coming from the sanguine Latin root sound awesome. So let's hit the examples:

Jack looked back at me, his sanguinary intent deep in his eyes...

I was in a sanguinary mood, so I slit the man's throat after I punched him in the face.

There was no way to end the slaughter during this sanguinary war.

And yes, the baby got a break this week. What do you think I am, sick or something? And yes, it's Thursday, I know.
