~Shino/Dog~
I went into my room for when I changed back. I pulled my cloths on and sat on my bed. I was still waiting to wake up. There was no way this was real. No way someone from the outside had accepted me. I took a deep shuddering breath and tried not to cry again. After awhile I went back to the kitchen. Mom was still upset with me. I finished up the diner.
Kai came out and smiled. "Can I help set the table?!" I smiled and nodded. "Sure thing kiddo." I got all the plates and cups out for him. "I want to sit here!...And Aaralyn can sit...here! And Shino gets to sit next to her! And then Shino's mom can sit here!" I blushed at the way he said I was sitting next to Aaralyn. He turned and looked at me. "Where's your dad gonna sit?" I looked down. "Well kiddo....I don't have a dad." He looked at the table and then back at me. "Yeah...me either." I walked over and ruffled his hair. "Who needs dads though when you have big brothers?" He smiled.
I saw Aaralyn standing by the doorway. She was smiling. I blushed and turned away. "Uh...dinners ready..." Kai grabbed her hand and led her to the table. "You're sitting between me and Shino!" I headed to my moms room and knocked on the door. "Dinners ready." She didn't answer. I doubt she was gonna eat. She would avoid me for the next few days...just til my bruises went away. She always did that. I sat at the table.
Kai looked at the empty seat. "Where's your mom?" I stuck a fork full of food in my mouth. "Aaralyn looked towards my moms room. "She won't be joining us." Kai cocked his head to the side. "Why not?" I looked down at my plate. "Cause....she's mad at me I guess." I took another bite. "Whenever Kanayuki hurts me she locks herself in her room....seeing my bruises upsets her. So I won't see her until they go away." Aaralyn looked into my eyes. "That must be lonely." I nodded. "Lots of the other kids have it worse. In the zodiac they're either over protective or they abandon you."
My eyes wandered to the picture of my mom and dad. Aaralyn followed my gaze. "Sometimes I think she blames me....but I don't mind. If I'd never been born she wouldn't have gone through so much trouble." After dinner Aaralyn and I cleaned up. "You did it again." I was washing the dishes. "Did what?" She crossed her arms. "You're hiding your feelings again behind that facade." I looked down. "It's true though. I mean...it is lonely...and sometimes it hurts. But...it's true. I've done nothing but hurt her. W...when you're cursed...my mom...she couldn't even hold me when I was a baby. My dad. He wasn't from the Sohma family. He was disgusted by me and he left. So I was always called a mutt by Kanayuki." Aaralyns eyes widened. "In our family it's rare to marry outsiders. They fear they won't understand." I smiled. "But you're still here. And it gives me hope."
